Chapter 9 - The Public Rebirth-9

The grand ballroom of the Drake Hotel in Chicago was packed with over two hundred journalists, news camera crews, corporate leaders, and financial analysts.
Flashbulbs flashed continuously as I stepped up to the podium, wearing a sharp white suit. Behind me sat a giant screen displaying a single logo that was about to replace the Vance name forever: STERLING ENTERPRISES.
The room buzzed with intense curiosity. The scandal surrounding Julian’s arrest had been the top news story in the country for a week, but no one expected what was about to happen today.
I cleared my throat, adjusting the microphone. The room fell into an eager, expectant silence.
"Thank you all for coming," I began, looking directly into the bank of television cameras. "For the past two weeks, the public has watched the collapse of Vance Global through headlines of fraud, betrayal, and crime. Many of you have asked how a company with such a long history could fall into such deep darkness."
I paused, pressing a button on the podium.
The screen behind me illuminated with a historic photograph from 1985 showing my grandfather, David Sterling, standing beside his original engineering patents.
"The truth," I continued, my voice steady and resonant, "is that the foundation of Vance Global was built on a lie. Thirty years ago, Richard Vance stole the life's work of my grandfather, David Sterling, driving him to ruin."
A collective gasp echoed through the ballroom. Journalists began typing frantically on their laptops.
"Evelyn Vance, a woman of profound grace and moral conviction, spent the final years of her life ensuring that this historic injustice would be corrected," I stated. "Through her final will and testament, complete controlling ownership of this corporation has been restored to David Sterling’s direct lineage."
I looked out at the sea of shocked faces.
"As of today," I declared, "Vance Global is officially dissolved. In its place stands Sterling Enterprises—a company dedicated to innovation, ethical leadership, and absolute community accountability. All debts incurred by the previous management have been settled in full, and a fifty-million-dollar charity trust has been established in honor of Evelyn Vance to support victims of domestic abuse and corporate elder fraud."
The ballroom erupted into a frenzy of questions and flashing cameras. Reporters shouted my name, desperate for comments, but I simply bowed my head, stepped away from the podium, and walked calmly off the stage flanked by my legal team.
As I stepped into the private holding room behind the stage, my assistant handed me a tablet.
"Mrs. Vance... or rather, Mrs. Sterling," she said, her eyes wide with admiration. "Julian’s attorney called from the jail. He saw the live broadcast."
"And what did he say?" I asked smoothly.
"He said Julian had a severe panic attack in his cell and is begging for a five-minute meeting with you before his preliminary hearing tomorrow."
May you like
I looked at my reflection in the mirror, adjusting my jacket.
"Tell his attorney I'll give him three minutes," I said coldly. "And tell him it will be the last time Julian Vance ever sees my face."
