Chapter 8 - The Revelation of Blood and Iron-8

The realization hit me like a physical blow, leaving me breathless in the quiet basement.
My entire life—my childhood of modest means, my orphan years after my parents died in a car crash, my meeting with Julian fifteen years ago—had not been a random sequence of events.
Evelyn had searched for me. She had found me working as a young librarian in small-town Illinois, living quietly without any knowledge of my grandfather’s past.
She had brought me into her circle, introducing me to Julian, hoping that by marrying me into the Vance family, she could quietly return the empire to its rightful heir through marriage.
She had hoped Julian would treat me with love and respect, uniting the two families in genuine peace. But Julian had inherited his father's cruelty, arrogance, and greed. He had seen me not as a partner, but as an unassuming, quiet girl he could dominate and control.
Evelyn had realized too late that her son was beyond redemption. And so, during the final years of her life, as Julian began his slow attempt to poison her, Evelyn had executed a secondary plan: she had rewritten her will, documented every crime, and ensured that the empire would return to David Sterling’s line—not as a marital gift to Julian, but as an absolute, unassailable inheritance to me.
Tears welled in my eyes as I clutched the yellowed birth certificate to my chest.
"Evelyn..." I whispered into the quiet room. "You didn't just protect me. You restored my grandfather's name."
All the years I had spent feeling worthless, feeling like an outsider who was merely tolerated by the wealthy Vance family, dissolved in an instant. I was not an intruder in this house. I was the rightful owner of everything they had built on my grandfather's tears.
I closed the black binder, packed it carefully into my bag, and walked upstairs.
The house no longer felt like a prison; it felt like a monument to justice waiting to be fulfilled.
I called Arthur Pendelton immediately.
"Arthur," I said, my voice cold and focused. "I need you to schedule a public press conference at the Vance Global corporate headquarters tomorrow morning."
May you like
"A press conference, Clarissa?" Arthur asked, surprised. "The media is already swarming outside. What are we announcing?"
"We are announcing the complete rebranding of Vance Global," I declared firmly. "And we are revealing the truth about who really built this company."
