Chapter 14 - THE HEIR TO THE EMPIRE

-14
Spring returned to Washington, D.C., bringing with it a vibrant bloom of cherry blossoms that painted the capital city in delicate shades of pink and white.
Inside the private botanical courtyard of the Escalante Global headquarters, the air was warm and filled with the scent of blooming jasmine. Sunlight filtered through the glass atrium roof, casting gentle patterns across the stone pathways where Hector Escalante and Mariana walked side by side.
Hector paused by a stone fountain, leaning lightly on his polished ebony walking cane, looking affectionately at his daughter.
"The quarterly financial reports are finalized, Mariana," Hector said with a gentle smile. "Vance Industries has been fully integrated into our core logistics division. Its previous liabilities have been cleared, and its brand has been restructured under the Escalante Foundation philanthropic wing."
Mariana stopped beside him, watching the clear water ripple over the stone edge of the fountain. She wore a simple, elegant ivory silk dress, her expression calm, serene, and entirely at peace.
"Make sure the restructuring preserves the employment contracts of the lower-level workers," Mariana instructed quietly. "They had no part in Andrew and Arthur’s corporate corruption. They shouldn't suffer for the arrogance of men who thought they owned an empire they never earned."
"It has already been taken care of," Hector replied approvingly. "You have your mother’s sharp mind, Mariana, but you have her heart as well. She would have been very proud of the woman you've become."
Mariana smiled softly, looking down at her hands. The cut on her palm from the shattered coffee table had healed months ago, leaving only a faint, silvery line—a tiny scar that served as a permanent reminder of the night her life had changed forever.
"People often think that power comes from what you destroy," Mariana said softly, looking out across the sprawling, beautiful courtyard. "They think that owning buildings, freezing accounts, and crushing enemies is what makes an empire strong."
She turned her gaze to meet her father's eyes.
"And what do you think makes an empire strong, my dear?" Hector asked gently.
"Knowing when to walk away," Mariana replied without hesitation. "Knowing that true power isn't about forcing someone to kneel. It’s about having the strength to stand tall on your own foundation, so that no matter who tries to break you... they can never touch what you’ve built."
Hector nodded slowly, a deep, proud smile spreading across his weathered face. "The board meets tomorrow to vote on your formal appointment as Chairperson and CEO of the entire global conglomerate. Are you ready to take the full weight of the crown?"
May you like
Mariana took a deep breath, feeling the warm spring breeze brush against her face, carrying with it the endless promise of tomorrow.
"I've been ready my entire life, Father," Mariana said, her voice steady, clear, and ringing with absolute, unshakeable certainty. "Let's begin."
