Chapter 11 - THE QUEEN'S REIGN

-11
Three months later.
The grand ballroom of the Escalante Plaza Hotel—the premier luxury landmark in the financial district—was dazzling under the light of a thousand crystal chandeliers. Tonight marked the annual Global Industrial Summit, a gathering of the world’s most powerful billionaires, tech moguls, political leaders, and financial magnates.
Every person in the room wore custom haute couture, dripping with millions of dollars in diamonds, emeralds, and platinum.
At the center of the grand staircase stood Mariana Escalante.
She wore a breathtaking, floor-length midnight-blue velvet gown embroidered with subtle silver threading that caught the light with every step. Around her neck rested a magnificent, flawless emerald necklace—the same style of heirloom Margaret Vance had once claimed she was unworthy to touch, except this necklace was an original museum-grade piece worth more than the entire Vance estate combined.
The room parted for her like the sea, whispers of awe and absolute reverence rippling through the crowd as she descended the staircase.
"Ladies and gentlemen," the master of ceremonies announced into the microphone, his voice echoing across the ballroom. "Please join me in welcoming the Chief Executive Officer of Escalante Global Conglomerate... Miss Mariana Escalante."
Applause thundered through the hall, a deafening wave of respect and admiration from the most powerful elites on the planet.
Mariana smiled—not the sad, constrained smile of a woman hiding behind an ordinary identity, but the radiant, untouchable smile of an empress standing atop her rightful throne.
As she took her place at the head table, flanked by her father Hector and Marcus Sterling, her thoughts drifted for a brief second across the city, to the dark, forgotten corners where men like Andrew Vance and Arthur Vance now resided—forgotten, bankrupt, and swallowed by the shadows of history.
They had believed they could break her. They had believed that by stripping away her dignity in a marble mansion, they had conquered her soul.
They never understood a fundamental truth of the world:
You cannot destroy a queen when she is the one who built the kingdom.

"A toast," Mariana said, lifting her crystal champagne flute as the entire ballroom quieted instantly to listen to her every word. "To new beginnings. To unyielding strength. And to the absolute certainty that those who forget who built their foundation... will always fall the hardest."
The crystal glasses chimed together like a symphony of glass and gold, echoing through the grand hall, sealing her triumph across the world.
