Chapter 12: Rosa’s Fear
Despite the peace, Rosa was worried.
She had seen how Patricia manipulated Emiliano before. She was afraid that one day he might change his mind again. She was afraid of getting too close to the girls… and to him.
One afternoon, she told him she was thinking of leaving.
Emiliano looked at her like she had struck him.
“Why?” he asked.
“Because I don’t want to overstep,” Rosa said quietly. “The girls are getting attached. And you… you might meet someone else one day. I don’t want to be in the way.”
Emiliano stepped closer.
“Rosa,” he said. “You are not in the way. You are the reason this house feels like a home again.”
He took her hand gently.
“I’m not asking you to stay as the housekeeper,” he said. “I’m asking you to stay as… family. If you want to.”
Rosa looked at him, eyes wide.
