In the weeks that followed, the house slowly changed.
Without Patricia, the girls became louder, happier. They laughed more. They ran to Emiliano without hesitation. They asked Rosa to play games with them in the evenings.
Emiliano started coming home earlier. He ate dinner with his daughters every night. He read bedtime stories. He tucked them in.
And he watched Rosa.
He watched how gentle she was. How patient. How she loved his daughters without asking for anything in return.
One night, after the girls fell asleep, he found Rosa in the kitchen making tea.
“Would you like to join me?” he asked.
