Chapter 7 - The Infiltration-7

Night fell over the Pacific Northwest like a thick black blanket. Cold rain turned to slush as Spencer’s armored SUV wound its way up the narrow, unpaved mountain roads surrounded by towering Douglas fir trees.

Sitting in the back seat was Dr. Pamela Ortiz, who had insisted on coming to help provide medical assistance if Jocelyn was injured. Up front, Spencer drove with cold, mechanical precision, while Charlee slept soundly in the rear seat, wrapped in a warm wool blanket beside baby Dexter’s secure travel bassinet. Spencer had refused to leave the children behind at the mansion, knowing that Julian’s reach extended everywhere. The SUV was now a mobile fortress, guarded by three trailing vehicles filled with Spencer’s private tactical team.

"There it is," Marcus said from the passenger seat, pointing a thermal scanner toward the dense woods ahead.

Through the fog and rain, the silhouette of a massive, rustic structure emerged—an old timber-frame barn built over a reinforced concrete subterranean bunker. A high chain-link fence topped with razor wire surrounded the perimeter, and two black luxury SUVs were parked near the heavy steel entrance doors.

Thermal imaging showed five human heat signatures inside the facility: three armed guards, one stationary target seated in a chair, and one moving target pacing back and forth.

"Julian," Spencer growled, looking at the screen.

"Boss," Marcus warned, checking his silenced sidearm. "This is private corporate land, but if we breach by force, Julian’s lawyers will call the county sheriff and claim we are conducting an armed raid."

"Let them call the sheriff," Spencer said, checking the action on his own weapon. "By the time the police arrive, I will have my son’s mother out of that bunker, and Julian will be facing federal kidnapping and attempted murder charges."

Spencer turned to Pamela. "Keep the doors locked and stay with the kids. If you hear gunfire, drive the SUV down the mountain immediately to the state police station."

"Spencer, be careful," Pamela whispered, holding her breath.

Spencer squeezed Charlee’s small shoulder, jumped out into the freezing rain, and signaled his six tactical operators.

They moved like ghosts through the thick tree line, cutting through the perimeter chain-link fence with heavy wire cutters. Spencer approached the side entry pad of the concrete bunker. He typed in his master corporate override code—a secret master key his father had given him fifteen years ago that Julian didn't even know existed.

The heavy steel door clicked softly.

ACCESS GRANTED.

Spencer pulled his weapon, took a deep breath, and stepped into the dark, cold corridor of the vault.
