Seraphina sat behind her massive mahogany desk on the top floor of the newly constructed Bellamy Tower in downtown Miami. The office featured floor-to-ceiling windows offering a panoramic, breathtaking view of Biscayne Bay and the Atlantic Ocean beyond.
Julian Vance entered the office, setting a hot cup of black tea beside her iPad.
"The restructuring of the South Florida assets is complete, Chairwoman," Julian reported with a proud smile. "The former Meridian Group properties have been fully converted into mixed-income sustainable developments. The public reception has been overwhelmingly positive."
"And the Palm Beach estate?" Seraphina asked, taking a slow sip of her tea.
"It has been donated to the Florida Marine Preservation Trust," Julian replied. "It will serve as a oceanographic research facility named in honor of your grandfather, Arthur Bellamy."
Seraphina smiled softly, looking at a small, framed black-and-white photograph of her grandfather that sat on the corner of her desk.
"He would have liked that," she murmured.
"There is one final matter, ma'am," Julian said, pulling a letter from his folder. "We received a written request from the Federal Correctional Institution in Coleman. Inmate Grant Holloway has submitted four formal requests to see you."
Seraphina picked up the letter, looking at her former husband’s name written in shaky handwriting on the envelope. She did not open it.

She walked over to the paper shredder beside her desk, dropped the unopened letter into the slot, and watched as it was instantly reduced to fine, white dust.
"Tell the warden that Chairwoman Bellamy has no further business with that individual," Seraphina said calmly.
