Chapter 11 - The Fall of Delaney Cross-11

Inside the cold, sterile visitation room of the Miami Federal Detention Center, Delaney Cross sat behind a thick pane of reinforced glass. Her pristine designer clothes had been replaced by a coarse orange jumpsuit, her hair was unwashed and pulled into a messy ponytail, and her manicured nails were chipped and short.
The heavy steel door on the visitor’s side unlocked, and Seraphina walked in.
Delaney snapped her head up, her eyes flashing with a mixture of bitter hatred and desperate, cornered aggression. She grabbed the plastic intercom phone the moment Seraphina sat down on the metal stool.
"Are you here to gloat?" Delaney spat through the receiver, her voice raspy and trembling. "Are you happy now? You destroyed Grant, you destroyed his family, and you ruined my life!"
Seraphina picked up her receiver, holding it casually to her ear, her face completely calm.
"You ruined your own life, Delaney," Seraphina said smoothly. "You chose to target a married man because you thought his company was worth millions. You chose to help him forge financial documents because you wanted a piece of his success. You never bothered to check who was actually funding the empire."
Delaney slammed her hand against the glass partition. "I loved him!"
Seraphina let out a quiet, genuine laugh that sent a chill through Delaney’s spine.
"You did not love Grant," Seraphina said. "You loved his custom watches, his luxury sports cars, and the VIP tables he booked with my money. You loved the illusion of power. And the moment the federal marshals put handcuffs on him, you traded his secrets to save yourself."
Delaney’s face flushed red with shame, her breath fogging the glass between them.
"I am offering you one deal, Delaney," Seraphina continued, her tone shifting into a sharp, businesslike register. "If you provide full, un-redacted testimony regarding the offshore accounts Grant used to hide funds from his company’s shareholders, Bellamy Holdings will not file secondary civil lawsuits against your family’s remaining estate in Palm Beach."
Delaney stared at Seraphina through the glass, realizing for the first time the absolute difference between playing at power and possessing it. Seraphina was not a bitter rival seeking revenge; she was an sovereign executing justice.

"I’ll testify," Delaney whispered, her shoulders slumping in complete defeat. "I’ll tell them everything."
Seraphina hung up the receiver, stood up from her stool, and walked out of the room without looking back.
