Chapter 4 - The Prodigal Betrayal-4-

The air in the examination room turned to ice.

Adrian’s hands slowly loosened their grip on Chloe’s collar. He stood frozen, staring at his younger brother as if Julian were a ghost, or a monstrous stranger wearing a familiar face. His brain struggled to bridge the impossible gap between the man standing before him and the brother he had shared a childhood, a corporate empire, and a family name with.

“Julian...” Adrian whispered, the word tasting like ash and iron in his mouth. He took a staggering step back, his eyes darting between his brother and the weeping woman on the table. “You... you’re the one? You slept with Chloe?”

Julian chuckled softly, stepping further into the room and casually adjusting his cuffs. He didn’t look guilty; he looked like a CEO closing a routine acquisition at the end of a profitable quarter.

“Slept with her?” Julian repeated, his tone dripping with condescension. “Adrian, please. Try to elevate your vocabulary. We didn’t just ‘sleep together.’ We entered into a strategic partnership. When mother insisted that Castillo Global needed a secure, uncontested heir to consolidate the upcoming board merger, she made it clear that whoever delivered that heir would control the primary voting shares of the holding trust. And let’s be honest, brother—your marriage to Elena was a sinking ship from day one. You couldn’t even control your own household. How were you supposed to control a billion-dollar empire?”

Vanessa pressed her back against the wall, her eyes wide with shock and horror as she stared at her youngest brother. “Julian, have you lost your mind?! That’s... that’s sick! That’s incestuous insanity! She was Adrian’s mistress!”

“She was an asset,” Julian corrected sharply, his smile vanishing, replaced by the cold, ruthless glare of a corporate predator. “A vessel for the Castillo bloodline. Mother knew all about it, Vanessa. In fact, mother was the one who introduced Chloe to my private secretary six months ago. We needed someone malleable, someone controllable, someone who would sign away custody of the child to the primary trust once the birth certificate was filed. And who better to fund her apartment, her luxury cars, and her medical care than my dense, ambitious older brother, who thought he was playing the grand master while he was actually just paying my bills?”

Adrian felt a roaring sound fill his ears, drowning out the hum of the air conditioning, drowning out Chloe’s pathetic whimpering, drowning out the ticking of the clock.

Paying my bills.

Every wire transfer he had made over the past year. Every secret account he had drained from his marital assets with Elena, believing he was building a nest egg for his new life with Chloe. Every dollar he had stolen from his own family accounts to prove his independence and dominance... had gone straight into financing his brother’s child with his own mistress.

He had been played from every conceivable angle. A puppet dancing on strings pulled by his mother, his brother, and a woman who viewed him as nothing more than an ATM with legs.

“You son of a bitch,” Adrian snarled, a guttural sound of pure, unbridled rage tearing from the back of his throat.

Before Julian could react, Adrian lunged forward, tackling his brother across the pristine mahogany consultation desk. The heavy oak table slammed into the wall, scattering medical files, glass jars of tongue depressors, and the digital tablet across the floor in a chaotic shower of debris.

They crashed to the linoleum floor, a tangled mass of expensive wool and swinging fists. Adrian hammered his fist into Julian’s jaw, a sickening crunch echoing through the room as blood sprayed across the pristine white tile.

“Adrian! Stop it! Are you insane?!” Vanessa screamed, lunging forward to grab her older brother’s arm, trying to pry him away.

Julian, recovering swiftly from the surprise attack, spat a mouthful of blood onto the floor and slammed his knee upward into Adrian’s ribs. Adrian grunted, the wind knocked violently out of his lungs, rolling off his brother and gasping for air against the base of the supply cabinet.

Julian scrambled to his feet, straightening his ruined suit jacket and wiping a streak of crimson from his lower lip. His eyes were cold, dark, and filled with venom. He didn’t look like a brother anymore; he looked like an executioner.

“You stupid, arrogant fool,” Julian hissed, adjusting his collar with shaking fingers. “You think you’re a Castillo? You’re nothing. You’re a placeholder. Mother always knew you lacked the stomach for real power. That’s why she signed over the primary trust deeds to me last month while you were busy signing divorce papers with Elena.”

Adrian coughed, clutching his bruised ribs, looking up from the floor with bloodshot, disbelieving eyes. “Mother... did this to me?”

May you like

“Mother did what was necessary for the family,” Julian said coldly, turning toward the door. He paused, casting one final, disgusted glance down at Chloe, who was still huddled on the examination table. “And as for you, Chloe—pack your things and get out of the penthouse by nightfall. The trust doesn’t need you anymore now that the genetic sample has been officially logged in the system. Your contract is terminated.”

With that, Julian turned and strode out of the room, his footsteps echoing down the hallway until they faded completely into the silence of the VIP clinic.
