Chapter 10 - The Ashes of Castillo Global-10-

Back in the financial district of the city, the rain had finally stopped, leaving the asphalt slick and reflecting the harsh neon signs of corporate towers that never truly slept. But the Castillo Global headquarters looked less like a corporate titan and more like a crime scene cordoned off from the world.

Yellow police tape stretched across the sweeping glass entrance doors. Federal agents in dark suits carried cardboard boxes filled with shredded documents and hard drives out to waiting black vans parked curbside. A swarm of reporters and camera crews crowded behind the barricades, thrusting microphones toward anyone unfortunate enough to walk past.

Inside the forty-second-floor executive suite, the atmosphere was thick with the suffocating stench of defeat and stale scotch.

Julian Castillo sat slumped in the leather executive chair—the very same chair his father, and then his brother, had occupied before him. His tie was undone, his collar unbuttoned, and his hands trembled as he stared at the final asset seizure notice displayed on his laptop screen.

Zero balances. Frozen trusts. Seized offshore accounts. Indictments for securities fraud, wire fraud, and systemic embezzlement. The Castillo empire had not just fallen; it had been systematically eradicated by the very regulatory bodies they had spent decades bribing and manipulating.

The heavy office door creaked open.

Marcus Vance walked in, holding a single manila folder under his arm. He didn’t bother sitting down.

“The board has officially voted, Julian,” Marcus said, his voice flat, emotionless, and entirely transactional. “You’ve been stripped of all executive authority, voting rights, and trustee privileges. The prosecution has offered a plea deal—ten years federal minimum security in exchange for full cooperation and turning over the remaining hidden ledger accounts.”

Julian slowly raised his head, his eyes bloodshot, dark circles carved deep beneath them. He looked like a man who had aged twenty years in twenty-four hours. “Ten years? Ten years in a federal penitentiary? My mother... my mother has connections in the Department of Justice. She can fix this!”

“Your mother is dead, Julian,” Marcus reminded him coldly, dropping the manila folder onto the desk. “And her connections died with her. The political climate has changed. The prosecutors want a high-profile corporate scalp to prove that no dynasty is above the law. You drew the short straw.”

Julian let out a dry, hysterical laugh, burying his face in his hands. “And Adrian? Where is my dear brother? Did he crawl back to his hometown to lick his wounds?”

“Adrian is gone,” Marcus replied. “Left the city last night. No forwarding address, no credit cards, no digital footprint. He didn’t even clear out his locker at the bus terminal. He just vanished.”

Julian fell silent, the crushing weight of reality finally settling onto his shoulders. He had wanted everything. He had schemed, betrayed, manipulated, and destroyed everyone in his path to seize control of the Castillo name. And now, he sat alone in a ruined office, stripped of his wealth, his freedom, and his future, waiting for federal marshals to come put handcuffs on his wrists.

The elevator chimes echoed down the quiet hallway outside.

Heavy, purposeful footsteps approached the double doors. Two men in dark federal windbreakers walked into the suite, their badges gleaming coldly under the fluorescent lights.

“Julian Castillo?” the lead agent asked, pulling a pair of steel handcuffs from his belt.

Julian didn’t move. He didn’t fight. He simply closed his laptop screen, letting the dark glass reflect his ruined face one last time.

“Yeah,” Julian whispered, holding out his wrists. “That’s me.”
