Chapter 8 - Dawn Over Manhattan

The morning sun rose over the jagged skyline of Manhattan, casting long, golden reflections across the glass facade of the federal courthouse in Foley Square.
Inside the high-security executive conference room on the twelfth floor, District Attorney Robert Vance sat at the head of a massive mahogany table, surrounded by federal prosecutors, naval criminal investigators, and senior cybersecurity analysts.
The double doors swung open, and Raymond Hawthorne walked into the room. He wore a fresh charcoal-gray tailored suit, his silver hair neatly combed, his posture as upright and commanding as ever. Walking beside him was Elena, holding little Leo’s hand, both of them looking weary but entirely safe.
Raymond stepped up to the head of the table and gently placed a small titanium micro-drive onto the polished wood surface right in front of the District Attorney.
"Everything you need to dismantle Vanguard Global Security, unseat the corrupt procurement officers in the Pentagon, and expose the cover-up surrounding my son’s death is encrypted on that drive," Raymond said, his voice echoing clearly through the silent room.
District Attorney Vance looked down at the micro-drive, then up at Raymond with profound gravity. "Mr. Hawthorne, once we plug this into the federal network, there's no turning back. We're talking about high treason, illegal military operations, and a conspiracy reaching the highest levels of the federal government."

Raymond looked across the table at Elena and little Leo, who smiled weakly back at him. Then, he turned his gaze back to the federal prosecutor, his eyes burning with an unyielding, eternal fire.
"Let's begin the audit," Raymond said.
