Chapter 11 - The Geneva Connection

11
The private Gulfstream G650 touched down on the tarmac of Geneva-Cointrin Airport under a heavy sheet of alpine rain, its turbine engines screaming as thrust reversers engaged to slow the aircraft down the slick runway.
Inside the luxurious leather cabin, Raymond Hawthorne sat reviewing encrypted financial wire transfers on his secure satellite tablet. Accompanying him on this unannounced European trip was Director Vance, who stood quietly near the cabin door monitoring satellite telemetry and secure comms feeds from Washington.
"We're cleared for private hangar sector nine, Mr. Hawthorne," Vance reported, looking up from his tactical display. "Swiss federal authorities are standing by to escort our transport directly to the Hawthorne European Research Complex."
Raymond closed his tablet with a soft click and looked out the reinforced window at the grey, mist-shrouded peaks of the Jura Mountains. Something in the back of his mind had been gnawing at him for days. The takedown of Vanguard Global Security had been far too clean, far too neatly gift-wrapped for federal prosecutors to unwrap. It felt less like a complete victory and more like the pruning of dead branches from a much deeper, more dangerous root system.
"Vance," Raymond said quietly, his eyes narrowing as he watched the rain streak across the glass. "Did our forensic audit of Vanguard’s offshore accounts reveal who their primary corporate parent entity was in Europe?"
Vance paused, his fingers hovering over his tactical console. He pulled up a secondary encryption file that had taken weeks to decrypt. "That's the strange part, boss. Vanguard's paper trail in the US led straight to shell companies in Delaware and the Cayman Islands. But the ultimate routing node—the entity that funded their initial R&D grants five years ago—was registered under a Swiss conglomerate called Helvetia Prime Logistics."
Raymond’s eyes flashed with sudden, sharp realization. Helvetia Prime Logistics. A ghost corporation that owned half the commercial real estate and defense shipping infrastructure in central Europe—including the subterranean research annex located directly beneath the Hawthorne European facility in Geneva.
"They didn't just infiltrate our defense supply chain in America," Raymond whispered, standing up as the aircraft taxied to a halt inside the private hangar. "They built a backdoor inside our own European research labs."
Before Vance could respond, the cabin door swung open, and the pilot stepped back inside, his face pale and dripping with rainwater.
"Mr. Hawthorne! You need to look at this—now!" the pilot stammered, holding up a portable satellite receiver displaying an urgent emergency broadcast banner across the screen.
May you like
Raymond strode forward and snatched the receiver from the pilot's hand.
The screen showed live thermal satellite footage of the Hawthorne European Research Complex in downtown Geneva. The entire perimeter was surrounded by heavy armored trucks bearing no military insignia, their floodlights cutting through the pouring rain as elite tactical teams blew the main reinforced security gates wide open.
