Chapter 13 - The Breach at Midnight

The digital clock on the master console flipped silently to 02:00 AM.
Outside Blackwood Manor, the ocean breeze carried the faint, rhythmic hum of high-powered marine engines cutting through the water near the private estate shoreline. On the multi-split surveillance monitors, two sleek, matte-black stealth boats drifted silently against the rocky bank, their lights completely extinguished.
Twelve heavily armed figures clad in advanced tactical gear swarmed ashore with terrifying discipline. They didn't make a sound as they scaled the perimeter wall, bypassing the thermal tripwires with specialized frequency scramblers that Victor had deliberately left vulnerable to encourage their advance.
Inside the executive monitoring room, Victor and Marcus watched the thermal feeds with absolute, unblinking focus.
"They're through the outer wall," Marcus whispered, his hand resting on the master control toggle. "Moving across the lower rose gardens. Approaching the conservatory terrace now."
Victor stood tall, his hands resting flat on the steel console. His amber-green eyes burned with cold determination. "Let them step onto the stone patio. Give them sixty seconds to savor the illusion of victory."
Down in the rose gardens, the lead operative—a towering figure carrying a heavy breaching charge—signaled to his team with sharp hand gestures. They fanned out across the moonlit stone patio, securing the perimeter doors of the conservatory, believing the entire estate was wide open and vulnerable.
"Main objective is the executive archive room," a synthesized, encrypted voice crackled through the tactical team leader’s earpiece from the Aegis platform offshore. "Secure the legacy trust keys and neutralize any resistance. Leave no survivors."
"Copy that. Moving in," the team leader muttered into his collar mic.
He stepped forward onto the center of the patio tiles—right over the heavy pressure-sensitive hydraulic seam.
Click.
The soft mechanical sound was instantly drowned out by a deafening, synchronized roar as four massive, two-inch-thick titanium security shutters slammed downward from the roof overhang, sealing the entire patio in an impenetrable cage of reinforced metal.
Simultaneously, high-voltage non-lethal stun grids embedded in the stone floor pulsed with blinding blue light.
"Ambush! Defend the perimeter!" the team leader roared, raising his rifle.
Before his men could even aim their weapons, thousands of volts of electrical current surged through the stone patio, instantly dropping half the tactical team to the ground in a crackling flash of blue sparks, their weapons clattering uselessly against the tile.
The remaining operatives scrambled frantically toward the edges, firing wild bursts of assault rifle rounds against the titanium walls, but the bullets flattened harmlessly against the aerospace-grade alloy.
Inside the manor, Clara—who had been standing near the East Wing service pantry watching the security feeds on her hidden communicator—went pale. The master screens on her device suddenly flickered red, flashing a bold, terrifying warning: TRAP SPRUNG.
"No..." Clara whispered, her hands shaking as she tried to transmit an abort signal to the courtyard.
Before she could press a single button, a heavy hand gripped her shoulder from behind with unbreakable strength.
Clara gasped, whipping her head around. Standing right behind her was Marcus Vance, his expression carved from absolute ice, his sidearm holstered, his eyes burning with cold fury.
"Looking for your handlers, Clara?" Marcus asked softly.
Clara swallowed hard, her voice trembling. "I... I don't know what you're talking about—"
"Save it," Marcus interrupted, spinning her around and securing heavy tactical zip-ties around her wrists with professional efficiency. "Mr. Blackwood is waiting for you in the archive room. It’s time to meet the rest of your syndicate family."

Upstairs in the executive monitoring room, Victor watched the trapped tactical team on the patio thrash helplessly against the titanium cage. The first wave of the Sovereign Syndicate had been captured without a single Blackwood casualty.
But Victor knew this was only the scouting party. The real masterminds behind Aegis Maritime Corp were still waiting offshore, watching every move from their research vessel. And Victor was about to use their own captured extraction team to send them a message they would never forget.
