Chapter 11 - THE FIRE AND THE FURY

The glass roof of the conservatory imploded in a shimmering cascade of crystal shards as the first tactical operative dropped through the opening, landing squarely on the marble floor with a heavy, mechanical thud. Elena scrambled backward, shielding Leah’s face against her chest with her own body as she backed up against the edge of the indoor fountain. The operative raised a suppressed carbine, his visor glowing with an eerie blue digital HUD as he locked his targeting reticle directly on them. "Target acquired," a synthetic voice hissed through the operative's external speaker. "Securing the biological asset per Directorate directive 9-Alpha."
Before the operative could pull the trigger, a thunderous roar echoed from the shattered doorway behind him. Damian charged into the conservatory like a runaway freight train, throwing his entire body weight into the operative and slamming him sideways through a massive display of cascading orchids. The carbine discharged harmlessly into the glass ceiling, shattering the remaining panes as Damian wrenched the operative’s helmet off and delivered a devastating right hook that rendered the soldier unconscious instantly. Damian didn't pause for a breath. He grabbed Elena by the hand, hauling her forward through the wreckage. "Run!" he shouted over the deafening whine of the hovering helicopters overhead. "The air-raid sirens are tripping—we have to reach the motor pool right now!"

Bullets chewed through the marble pillars around them as a second operative dropped through the roof dome, returning fire with lethal precision. Viktor Vance materialized from the shadows of the corridor, laying down a punishing wall of lead from an automatic rifle that forced the new arrival back into cover behind the stone fountain. "Boss, the helipad is compromised!" Viktor yelled over the gunfire, swapping out an empty magazine in seconds. "We have to take the armored APC through the perimeter gates! It’s our only chance to punch through their blockade!" Damian shielded Elena and Leah with his own body as they sprinted through the smoking ruins of the grand hallway toward the subterranean garage, where the heavy-duty military personnel carrier sat idling with its engine roaring.
They piled into the reinforced cabin of the armored vehicle, the thick ballistic steel doors slamming shut with a satisfying, heavy thud that instantly muffled the chaos outside. Damian slid behind the reinforced steering wheel, slamming the transmission into drive while Viktor manned the roof-mounted heavy machine gun turret. "Hold on to her!" Damian yelled to Elena as he slammed his foot hard down on the accelerator. The ten-ton vehicle lurched forward, smashing straight through the reinforced iron security gates of the estate like they were made of paper, sending twisted metal flying into the dark night air. Above them, the stealth helicopters swept low, opening fire with armor-piercing rounds that scarred the heavy steel plating of the APC, but Damian didn't let up. He cut the headlights completely, relying solely on thermal imaging and raw instinct as he plunged the vehicle into the dense, twisting labyrinth of the northern forest roads, disappearing into the pitch-black wilderness before the Directorate assassins could lock onto their trajectory.
