Chapter 11 - The Legacy Restored-11

Five years after the night of the silver platter, Montgomery-Sterling Real Estate had become a global model for ethical corporate governance.
The company had expanded into sustainable urban design, building affordable housing complexes, green energy high-rises, and community health centers across three continents.
I sat in the high-ceilinged conference room of our international headquarters in London, looking at a wall-mounted digital map displaying our newest development projects in Western Europe.
Sitting beside me was Chloe, now the Chief Executive Officer of the foundation, and Marcus, who served as the Senior Vice President of Global Security.
"The Munich project was approved by the city council this morning, Claire," Chloe announced, sliding a signed contract across the glass table. "Three hundred units of zero-emission family housing, completely funded by our ethical investment trust."
"That’s incredible work, Chloe," I said, signing my name at the bottom of the approval page. "What about the Chicago staff expansion?"
"Patricia and Detective Miller have officially joined the board of directors for the legal defense initiative," Marcus added. "Our network now covers thirty-two states."
I leaned back in my leather chair, looking out the window at the misty skyline of London.
My life had transformed so completely that the memories of the cold house in Chicago, the demanding voices of Gloria and Vanessa, and the sting of Daniel’s hand felt like scenes from an old, black-and-white movie that belonged to someone else.
My phone chimed on the desk. It was an alert from my personal calendar:
ANNIVERSARY - ARTHUR MONTGOMERY & VICTORIA STERLING MEMORIAL GARDEN
I stood up, holding my coffee cup, and looked at Chloe and Marcus with a smile. "I need to take an early flight back to Chicago today."

"Everything alright, Claire?" Marcus asked, standing up.
"Everything is perfect, Marcus," I said warmly. "It's just time to put fresh flowers on the table."
