Chapter 13 - THE SILENT GUARDIAN

December settled over the city like a quiet blanket of pristine snow. The estate was adorned with thousands of twinkling white lights woven through the branches of the towering pine trees in the courtyard, casting a magical, luminous glow across the snow-covered grounds.
Inside the study, the digital architecture had evolved. The auxiliary terminal behind the bookshelf was no longer monitoring threats or running defensive scripts against internal spies. It had been integrated into a state-of-the-art, custom-built sensory integration system designed entirely around Sofía’s needs.
Through haptic feedback floors, spatial audio sensors, and tactile navigation paths embedded discreetly into the home's architecture, Sofía could now move through the expansive estate with complete, independent freedom. She didn't need to bump into walls or guess where doors were located; her home communicated with her through subtle vibrations, soft tonal cues, and safe, frictionless pathways.
Roberto sat at his mahogany desk, reviewing the final architectural schematics of the integration system, when the study door clicked open.
Sofía walked in, her footsteps guided effortlessly by the subtle haptic hum of the smart-flooring beneath her slippers. She walked straight to his desk, her small hands navigating the edge of the wood until she found his arm.
"Daddy?" she asked softly.
Roberto closed his laptop instantly, standing up and pulling her onto his lap. "I'm right here, my love. Is everything alright?"
"I heard the chimes in the hallway," she smiled, resting her head against his chest. "It means dinner is ready, and María made hot chocolate with marshmallows."
Roberto chuckled, wrapping his arms securely around her. "María spoils you rotten, you know that?"
"She says I deserve it," Sofía replied cheekily, her blind eyes sparkling with quiet joy. "And you say we deserve to be happy."
May you like
"I do," Roberto whispered, kissing her forehead. "I truly do."
They walked hand in hand down the warm, softly lit hallway toward the dining room, leaving the ghosts of the past buried deep in the digital dark where they belonged.
