Chapter 15 - The True Horizon-15

Five years after the terrifying call that changed everything.
The sun was setting over the serene lake waters at the Mercer family cabin near Percy Priest Lake—the very cabin that had once been a shadow of the past, now completely rebuilt into a bright, welcoming wooden haven.
A long wooden dock extended out into the calm, glassy water, reflecting the brilliant hues of pink, gold, and deep violet painted across the sky.
Fifteen-year-old Micah and eight-year-old Elsie were sitting on the edge of the dock, their feet dangling into the cool water, laughing as they tossed breadcrumbs to a flock of ducks swimming nearby.
Rowan stepped out onto the cabin porch, holding two warm mugs of coffee. He walked down the stone path to the dock, setting one mug down beside Delaney, who was sitting on a wooden bench drawing a watercolor landscape in her sketchpad.
"What are you painting, sweetheart?" Rowan asked softly, wrapping a warm woolen blanket around her shoulders before sitting beside her.
Delaney looked up, offering him a radiant smile, and turned her sketchpad toward him.
It was a beautiful, vibrant painting of their four family members standing together on the dock, bathed in the golden light of the setting sun, their shadows long and strong against the water.
"It's us," Delaney whispered, resting her head gently on Rowan’s shoulder. "Our complete picture."
Rowan looked down at the painting, then looked out over the quiet lake at his son and daughter, whose happy, bright laughter echoed softly across the calm water.
He pulled his phone out of his pocket—the same phone that had lit up with an unknown number five years ago in a distant corporate office. He looked at the wallpaper screen: a photo of his smiling family gathered around the farm's fireplace.
The darkness, the hunger, the fear, and the secrets of the past were completely gone, replaced by an unbreakable bond forged through love, truth, and absolute devotion.
"Dad! Look!" Elsie shouted, pointing toward a majestic bald eagle soaring high across the twilight sky. "He's flying so high!"

"He sure is, princess," Rowan called back, his grey-blue eyes shining with profound, unending gratitude.
Rowan squeezed Delaney’s hand, taking a deep, clean breath of the mountain air, knowing in his heart that his family was finally, truly home.
