Chapter 11 - The New Foundation-11

Six months later.

The summer sun shone brightly over a spacious three-acre property in Franklin, Tennessee—just twenty minutes south of Nashville.

In the center of the green lawn stood a beautiful, historic farmhouse surrounded by towering oak trees, a newly constructed wooden playground, and a bright red barn.

A large banner hung across the front porch railing: WELCOME TO THE FLORENCE & MERCER FAMILY RETREAT.

Dozens of children from local family shelters and foster care organizations were running across the grass, playing tag, eating ice cream, and flying colorful kites in the warm summer sky.

Rowan stood on the porch, wearing a simple blue linen shirt, holding two glasses of cold lemonade.

Delaney walked out from the house, wearing a bright yellow sundress, her hair tied back in a neat braid. She looked vibrant, healthy, and entirely restored.

"The new playground equipment was a hit," Delaney smiled, taking a glass of lemonade from Rowan. "The kids haven't stopped sliding for two hours."

"That's thanks to your incredible design team," Rowan smiled, putting his arm around her waist.

After the trial of Harold Sterling and Victor Vance concluded—resulting in life sentences for both men—Rowan and Delaney had made a joint decision to restructure their lives completely.

Rowan resigned from his corporate architecture firm to establish a non-profit foundation dedicated to designing and building safe, sustainable housing for low-income families and children in crisis. Using the proceeds from Rowan’s new firm and community grants, they bought the Franklin farm to serve as a community sanctuary and therapeutic retreat.

"Look at them," Delaney whispered, pointing toward the meadow.

Across the field, nine-year-old Micah was teaching a group of younger kids how to fly a giant blue dragon kite, while four-year-old Elsie was proudly showing a small rabbit to a group of laughing toddlers.

"They're whole again, Rowan," Delaney said, tears of gratitude glistening in her eyes. "You brought our family back from the dark."

"We brought them back, Delaney," Rowan corrected gently, kissing her cheek. "Together."
