Chapter 4 - The Paper Trail-4

Silence descended upon the apartment once again, so heavy you could hear the hum of the refrigerator in the kitchen.
Funmi’s eyes darted frantically around the room, her composure breaking completely. "That's impossible. My father’s private trust was sealed twenty years ago!"
"It was sealed," I agreed, taking a step closer to her. "Until my grandmother passed away last year and left her equity portfolio to her only granddaughter—me. I didn't care much about stocks or corporate holdings back then; I was content running my small plumbing and mechanical repair business. But when I saw the name Aura Logistics on Femi’s secret transfer receipts two days ago, I called my grandmother's estate lawyer."
I turned the page of the certified court order, pointing to the red seal at the bottom.
"As a major shareholder of the parent company," I continued, "I filed an emergency injunction at the Federal High Court this morning. All assets linked to Aura Logistics—including this apartment, your personal bank accounts, and the properties registered under Lawson & Adeleke Holdings—have been placed under a temporary judicial freeze pending a full forensic audit."
Mr. Lawson’s eyes snapped wide open. He immediately turned to Funmi, his professional composure crumbling. "Miss Williams... is this true? Did you conceal a pending shareholder injunction from us?"
"Shut up, Lawson!" Funmi snapped, her voice pitching up into a shrill, desperate frequency. "She’s bluffing! She’s a mechanic! She doesn't have the money or the influence to freeze my family’s accounts!"
"Mr. Adeleke," I said, addressing the court bailiff directly. "You can check the court registry on your phone right now. Suit number FHC/L/CS/2026/891. Filed at 9:00 AM today by Chambers of Chief Folarin."
The bailiff immediately pulled out his tablet, typed for a few seconds, and gasped softly. He looked at Funmi, then stepped away from her as if she were radioactive.
"The injunction is active," Mr. Adeleke declared loudly. "Miss Williams, you do not have the legal authority to execute an eviction notice on this property today. All actions regarding this asset are stayed until the forensic audit is completed."
Femi slumped down onto the floor, sitting right on the welcome mat, burying his head in his hands. The humiliation was total. He had lost his money, his home, his reputation, and his dignity all in the span of fifteen minutes.

Funmi glared at me with pure, unadulterated venom. "You think you're clever, don't you? You think you've won?"
"I don't care about winning, Funmi," I said quietly, looking down at her. "I just care about cleaning up garbage. And right now, there's a lot of trash in my hallway."
