Chapter 9 - A New Dawn9 -

The morning sun rose over Viet Tri with a brilliant, golden splendor that seemed to wash away every lingering shadow of the past. For the first time in over twenty years, I woke up without a knot of anxiety twisting in my stomach. There was no ticking time bomb of hidden text messages, no looming threat of emotional humiliation, and no suffocating dread about what secret betrayal Jordan was orchestrating behind my back.
I walked downstairs into the sunlit kitchen, wearing a comfortable cotton robe, and brewed a fresh pot of coffee. Baby Maya was still fast asleep in her crib upstairs, and Toby was resting peacefully before his summer soccer camp started next week. The house was quiet, peaceful, and entirely ours.
As I sat at the kitchen island, sipping my coffee and watching the morning light dance across the polished granite countertops, my phone buzzed softly on the table. It was an email from Marcus.
I opened it to find a single scanned document and a brief note: “Apex Industries board meeting concluded ten minutes ago. Jordan’s resignation has been accepted with cause. Asset liquidation is proceeding according to schedule. Enjoy your morning, Sarah.”
A quiet sense of closure settled over my soul. The legal battle was effectively won, the financial security of my children was guaranteed, and the toxic chapter of my life with Jordan was officially sealed and filed away.
A few minutes later, another notification popped up—a direct message from an unknown number on WhatsApp. I opened it cautiously, half expecting some pathetic, late-night plea from Jordan. Instead, it was a short video clip from Clark.
In the video, Clark was standing on a scenic balcony overlooking the city skyline, holding a cup of coffee and wearing a relaxed, genuine smile.
"Good morning, Sarah," Clark’s rich voice filled the quiet kitchen. "Just checking in to make sure the protagonist of yesterday’s blockbuster is enjoying her first official day of freedom. Remember, if you need any more dramatic entrances staged—or if you just want to grab brunch without a script—my schedule is wide open."
I laughed out loud, typing back a quick reply: “No dramatic entrances needed today, Clark. Just quiet coffee and peace. But brunch? That sounds like a script I could definitely get behind.”

Within seconds, his reply came back with a lightning-fast grin: “Name the time and place. I’ll bring the charm, you bring the peace.”
I set the phone down, feeling a light, fluttering warmth in my chest that had nothing to do with acting or revenge, and everything to do with a genuine, unscripted future.
