Chapter 4 - The Collapse of the Trophy Castle4 -

The facade was shattering faster than cheap glass. Percy’s high-society composure completely evaporated in the blinding heat of the afternoon sun. The young secretary, who had spent months basking in the luxury of stolen affection and corporate perks, suddenly realized that the golden goose she had hitched her wagon to was actually a sinking lead weight.
"Jordan, I asked you a question!" Percy demanded, her voice rising an octave, drawing the undivided attention of every single guest in the backyard. Several parents of Toby’s friends had stopped whispering and were openly staring, transfixed by the unfolding drama.
"Percy, shut your mouth, I'll explain later!" Jordan hissed back, his face glistening with cold sweat. He desperately tried to grab Percy’s arm, but she jerked away as if he were carrying a contagious disease.
"Explain what?" Percy sneered, her mask of sweet innocence completely slipping. "That you lied about your finances? That the apartment downtown isn't even in your name? That you're about to lose everything?"
Clark chuckled, crossing his arms over his broad chest. "Smart girl, Percy. Give her a gold star. Not only is the apartment leased under a shell company that Jordan forgot to dissolve, but every single luxury handbag, designer dress, and overseas vacation you’ve posted on your Instagram over the last year was purchased using corporate discretionary funds earmarked for research and development. In legal terms, that's called receiving stolen goods. The forensic audit report in that titanium drive has your name on it too, by the way. Page forty-four, subsection B."
Percy let out a sharp gasp, her face turning chalk-white. She staggered back, staring at Jordan with sheer horror. "You used company funds for me? Are you insane? You told me your divorce settlement covered all of it!"
"I—I did it to protect us!" Jordan stammered pathetically, his hands waving wildly in the air as he tried to manage damage control with both his furious mistress and his impending federal indictment. "Percy, listen to me, we have offshore accounts—"
"Offshore accounts?" Clark interrupted, flashing a brilliant, blinding smile. "You mean the ones in the Cayman Islands under the fictitious name 'J. Sterling'? The ones that the IRS and the Securities and Exchange Commission were anonymously tipped off about this morning at 9:00 AM sharp?"
Jordan froze. The last vestige of color drained entirely from his face, leaving him looking like a ghost standing in broad daylight. His knees finally gave out completely, and he stumbled backward into a cushioned patio lounge chair, sinking into it with a defeated thud.
Toby, my son, slowly walked over to where we were standing. He looked down at his father—not with anger, but with a profound, heartbreaking disappointment that cut deeper than any yell.
"Dad," Toby said quietly, his voice steady and mature far beyond his fifteen years. "Is all of this true? Did you really steal money and cheat on Mom, and then invite your girlfriend here just to rub it in her face?"
Jordan looked up at his son, his lips trembling. He opened his mouth, but no words came out. There was no defense left. The empire of lies he had constructed over the past year had imploded in less than ten minutes, right in front of the people he had spent his entire life trying to impress and control.

"Toby, honey," I said softly, stepping forward and placing a gentle, reassuring hand on my son's shoulder. "Go back inside with your friends for a few minutes. Your uncle Marcus is inside with some pizza. We'll handle this out here."
Toby nodded slowly. He gave his father one last, lingering look of absolute detachment before turning around and walking back toward the house. The other kids quietly followed his lead, sensing the gravity of the adult storm that had just swept through their celebration.
