Chapter 8 - The Trap Closes-8

Theresa stumbled back off the stair step, her voice turning into a high-pitched shriek. "David! She's lying! She hid that bottle there herself! She's trying to frame me because she knows she's losing her mind!"
David looked between his mother and me, panic visibly rising in his chest. "Valerie... how did you call a hospital? I took your phone! I took your credit card!"
"You took my primary phone, David," I said, pulling my encrypted satellite device from my coat pocket. "You forgot that before I was your wife, I spent eight years tracking down corporate criminals who were far smarter than you and your mother combined."
I pressed a button on the tablet resting on the side table.
The large flat-screen television on the living room wall flickered to life.
On the screen was the crystal-clear video feed recorded by Marcus’s team in Key West—showing David and Theresa sitting by the pool, talking to the real estate agent about buying a twelve-million-dollar villa on Star Island using my son's trust fund.
"Once your secondary trust release forms are cleared on Monday, we can close the deal immediately..." David's voice boomed from the TV speakers.
David stared at the screen, his mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water. "Valerie... I... I can explain that... that was just a business inquiry..."
"And this?" I asked, tapping another button.
The screen shifted to reveal the digitized packet logs from our home network, highlighting Theresa’s connections to the Cayman Islands offshore accounts, alongside the toxicology reports signed by Dr. Thorne.
"You tried to kill my son for thirty million dollars," I said, my voice dropping to a deadly whisper. "You abandoned a three-day-old infant showing critical cardiac distress so you could secure an alibi two thousand miles away."
"You have no proof!" Theresa screamed, her face contorting into a hideous mask of rage. "No court will believe a hysterical, postpartum woman over me! I am a respected member of the community!"
"They don't have to believe me, Theresa," I smiled faintly.
I raised my right hand and tapped my encrypted phone twice.
The front door was kicked open with an explosive crash.

"PORTLAND POLICE! FBI! DON'T MOVE!"
Eight heavily armed officers led by Detective Briggs surged into the entryway, their weapons trained directly on David and Theresa.
