Chapter 4 - The Key West Mirage-4

While Ethan slept peacefully under the care of three dedicated nurses, Marcus’s team in Florida went to work.
At 2:00 PM, my encrypted phone buzzed with an incoming live video feed streaming directly from a hidden camera positioned near the infinity pool at the Sunset Breeze Resort in Key West.
On my screen, Theresa Vance sat on a luxury cabana lounger, wearing designer sunglasses and sipping a frozen cocktail. David was lying nearby, casually chatting with a high-end real estate agent over his phone.
"Yes, Mr. Vance," the agent’s voice was captured clearly through Marcus’s directional microphone. "The oceanfront villa on Star Island is available for twelve million. Once your secondary trust release forms are cleared on Monday, we can close the deal immediately."
"Excellent," David chuckled, taking a sip of his drink. "My mother and I will sign the preliminary wire authorization tomorrow morning."
I watched them laugh, completely untouched by a single shred of remorse. They thought I was sitting at home in Willow Creek Lane, trapped without a phone, crying over an empty crib while my baby slowly slipped away.
They didn't know that my legal team had already filed an emergency motion with the King County Superior Court in Washington State.
At 3:30 PM, my lead attorney, Sarah Jenkins—a fierce, brilliant corporate prosecutor—called my encrypted device.
"Valerie," Sarah reported smoothly. "The judge just reviewed the forensic evidence, the hospital toxicity report, and the packet logs. He has granted an emergency ex-parte injunction freezing every bank account associated with David Vance, Theresa Vance, and Vance Holdings LLC."
"Did he freeze the secondary trust access?" I asked.
"Completely," Sarah confirmed. "Furthermore, the court issued a temporary emergency protection order. David and Theresa have been legally stripped of all parental and guardianship rights pending criminal indictment."
"What about their credit cards?"
"Every card linked to your shared accounts—including the one David stole from your purse—will be declined starting in five minutes," Sarah chuckled softly. "They are currently occupying a five-thousand-dollar-a-night suite with zero valid payment methods."
I looked at the live video stream on my tablet.
Right on cue, a resort manager accompanied by two security guards approached David’s cabana holding an electronic billing clipboard.
I zoomed in on David's face as the manager politely handed him the terminal. David confidently swiped my credit card.
DECLINED.
David frowned, pulling out his personal platinum card and swiping it again.
DECLINED.
Theresa sat up, her face turning bright red as she began shouting at the manager, waving her arms indignantly.
"There must be a system error!" David yelled, his voice captured crystal clear over the microphone. "I have over two hundred thousand dollars in liquid credit!"
"I'm sorry, Mr. Vance," the manager replied coldly. "Our system indicates that all accounts under your name have been flagged for severe fraud enforcement by federal order. If you cannot provide a valid alternative payment method within the hour, we will be forced to escort you off the property and notify local law enforcement."

I smiled, taking a sip of ice water inside the quiet hospital room.
"Enjoy the resort, David," I whispered to the screen. "That was just the appetizer."
