Chapter 12 - The Midnight Siege

12 - 15

The rain began to fall just as the clock struck 2:00 AM, a heavy, driving downpour that turned the manicured lawns of the Blackwood estate into a slick expanse of mud and shadow.

Inside the master suite, Ethan had placed Amelia and Lily in the reinforced panic room located behind the library—a secure, steel-lined bunker equipped with independent air filtration, emergency communications, and complete biometric lockdown protocols.

“Stay here, lock the inner deadbolt, and do not open this door for anyone unless you hear my voice giving our security passcode,” Ethan instructed, holding Amelia’s face gently in his hands.

“Ethan, be careful,” Amelia pleaded, her eyes shining with unshed tears. “If the Sterlings are behind this, they won't hesitate to use violence.”

“Neither will I,” Ethan replied firmly, kissing her forehead before closing the heavy steel door and engaging the hydraulic locks.

He moved swiftly down the dimly lit hallway, his tactical vest securely fastened over his black turtleneck, his pistol drawn and ready. Commander Vance and four elite tactical operatives were stationed at strategic choke points throughout the grand foyer and library, their weapons silenced and ready for engagement.

Outside, the heavy roar of approaching vehicle engines cut through the driving rain.

Two black, unmarked armored SUVs tore through the estate’s main security gates, smashing the wrought-iron barriers aside and speeding up the winding gravel driveway before coming to a violent, skidding halt directly in front of the grand portico.

The doors flew open. Twelve heavily armed operatives in dark tactical gear spilled out into the pouring rain, moving with terrifying, military-grade precision. They weren't corporate enforcers; they were professional mercenaries trained for black-ops extractions.

“Breaching charges planted at the east and west service entrances!” Vance’s voice crackled quietly over the encrypted earpiece. “Hold your fire until they cross the threshold.”

Ethan crouched behind the massive marble pillars of the grand foyer, his eyes locked on the heavy oak front doors.

BOOM.

The eastern service entrance blew inward in a shower of splintered wood and pulverized drywall. A second later, the front doors exploded outward as a secondary breaching charge detonated, sending shockwaves through the ancient mansion.

“Move, move, move!” a harsh voice shouted from the foyer through the blinding rain and smoke.

The mercenaries poured into the grand hall, their assault rifles raised, scanning the dark corners of the mansion.

Ethan didn't hesitate. He raised his SIG Sauer, squeezed the trigger twice with cold, practiced precision, and two of the lead mercenaries dropped instantly to the polished marble floor, neutralized by non-lethal suppression rounds.

“Contact! Sector One!” shouted the mercenary team leader, returning wild, blind fire toward the library corridor as glass shatters and wood splinters erupted around Ethan’s position.

The grand mansion instantly transformed into a war zone, the silence of the night shattered by the sharp, thunderous crack of tactical gunfire echoing off the vaulted ceilings and ancient stone walls.
