Chapter 13 - The Collapse of the Syndicate Board-1

The morning sun rose over the Long Island estate, burning away the lingering remnants of the mountain fog and casting long, golden beams across the manicured lawns and the bullet-scarred facade of the Moretti mansion.
Inside the grand dining room where the nightmare had begun less than twelve hours ago, the atmosphere was heavy with an entirely different kind of tension.
Around the long mahogany dining table sat five men—the remaining senior members of the Moretti syndicate board, including Marcus and Rossi. Their tailored suits were immaculate, but their faces were gray, drawn, and slicked with nervous sweat. Behind each of them stood a loyalist security operative with an assault rifle held at port arms.
At the head of the table sat Alessandro Moretti.
He wore a crisp charcoal suit, a dark silk tie, and silver-rimmed reading glasses as he slowly turned the pages of a thick corporate ledger detailing the offshore asset transfers Victor had attempted to siphon over the previous three months.
Standing near the sideboard, quietly pouring fresh orange juice for a small, sleeping child resting on a padded armchair, was Elena. Little Sophia was curled up peacefully under a warm wool blanket, clutching her worn teddy bear, completely exhausted by the harrowing events of the night, yet safe.
"Marcus," Alessandro said softly, not looking up from the ledger. His voice echoed off the polished silver cutlery with the weight of an executioner's axe. "You look pale this morning. Didn't sleep well?"
Marcus, a silver-haired patriarch who controlled the syndicate’s European shipping lanes, swallowed hard, clearing his throat. "Alessandro... let's not be hasty. Victor acted alone. He fabricated those transfer documents using forged executive authorizations. We... we had no idea he was tampering with your health."
Alessandro slowly closed the ledger. The dull thud of the heavy cover hitting the wood sounded like a gunshot in the silent room.
He took off his glasses, folded them carefully, and placed them beside his untouched espresso cup—the very cup that had sat waiting for him the night before. ရှင်
"Marcus," Alessandro said, his voice dangerously smooth. "Victor was a brilliant administrator, but he wasn't an accountant. He didn't have the clearance codes to access the Swiss sub-accounts on his own. He needed board approval. Specifically, two signatures from executive vice presidents."
Marcus flinched. The color drained entirely from his face.
"Rossi," Alessandro continued, turning his icy gray gaze toward the portly shipping boss seated across the table. "You signed off on the Zurich wire transfers thirty days ago under the classification of 'emergency medical logistics.' An interesting term for an assassin's payroll."
Rossi gripped the edge of the mahogany table so hard his knuckles turned white, opening his mouth to stammer an excuse, but no words came out.
"You all thought I was finished," Alessandro stood up slowly from his chair, resting his palms flat on the table and leaning forward into the light of the chandelier. "You thought an aging boss was too slow to notice the knife sliding between his ribs. You underestimated my security, you underestimated my vigilance, and most foolishly of all... you underestimated the people you consider invisible."
Alessandro nodded slightly toward the corner of the room where Elena stood watching over sleeping Sophia.
"Effective immediately," Alessandro declared, his voice ringing with absolute, unchallengeable authority, "all executive voting shares held by Marcus, Rossi, and their associates are forfeited back to the primary Moretti trust. You will resign your positions before noon, transfer your secondary holdings to the foundation accounts, and catch the first private flight out of the country. If any of you sets foot in this state again, Gabriel won't wait for a board meeting."
Marcus stared at him in horror. "Alessandro, you're stripping us of everything! You're exiling us with nothing!"
"I'm letting you draw breath," Alessandro corrected quietly, pulling his Beretta from his shoulder holster and placing it deliberately on the table surface. "Which is significantly more than you planned to afford me."

The board members didn't argue further. They knew when a king had reclaimed his throne. One by one, with trembling hands, they stood up from the table, pushed their chairs back, and walked out of the dining room in stunned, defeated silence, escorted by Gabriel’s armed guards toward the front gates.
The coup was over. The Moretti empire was cleansed.
