Chapter 10 - The Assembly of Restitution-10

At precisely ten o’clock in the morning, the main executive boardroom on the tenth floor of the Grand Regent Hotel was filled with overwhelming tension.
Twelve corporate board members, dressed in expensive charcoal suits and designer dresses, sat around the long conference table. Their faces were pale, their fingers tapping nervously on pristine leather folders. The room was buzzing with panicked whispers as everyone reviewed the devastating morning financial reports.
The heavy double oak doors of the boardroom swung open.
Ethan Vance walked into the room, flanked by Marcus and a team of federal legal advisers. Ethan had changed out of his faded leather jacket into a simple, tailored black suit with no tie. His posture was commanding, his eyes sharp and completely unyielding as he walked to the head of the table.
The room went dead silent.
Several board members stood up awkwardly, not knowing whether to offer handshakes or apologies.
“Sit down,” Ethan said, his voice low, clear, and carrying an absolute authority that instantly brought everyone back to their seats.
Ethan did not sit at the head of the table. He remained standing, leaning his hands flat against the polished wood, looking at every single board member in turn.
“For three years,” Ethan began, his voice echoing in the grand room, “this board sat in comfortable chairs, accepting high dividends and ignoring the warning signs. You allowed Arthur Pendelton to operate without independent oversight. You looked the other way when financial reports were delayed, and you celebrated profits that were built on top of a criminal vault beneath our feet.”
“Ethan, please,” an older board member stammered, holding up his hands. “We were completely kept in the dark by Arthur! We had no idea about the sub-level or the offshore accounts!”
“Ignorance is not an excuse when you are responsible for human lives,” Ethan replied coldly. “My wife, Sarah, raised red flags four years ago. Not one of you stepped up to support her audit. You let her stand alone.”
The board members lowered their eyes, unable to meet his gaze.
“Effective immediately,” Ethan announced, pulling a signed legal document from his folder and sliding it across the table, “I am exercising my founder’s majority voting right to dissolve the current board of directors.”
Gasps of shock erupted around the table.
“You can’t do that!” one woman gasped. “The corporate bylaws state—”
“The corporate bylaws state that in the event of gross structural negligence and federal criminal indictment, the founding shareholder holds absolute unilateral authority,” Marcus interrupted smoothly, handing out copies of the legal injunction. “Your resignations are already drafted and waiting for your signatures.”
Ethan looked at the stunned group. “The Regent Group will not be sold. It will not be dismantled by vulture capitalists. Starting today, fifty percent of all corporate executive bonuses will be redirected into an independent oversight fund and an employee welfare trust.”
Ethan turned toward the boardroom door and gestured for someone to enter.
The doors opened, and Lupita walked into the high-powered executive boardroom. She looked hesitant at first, stepping onto the plush carpet in her maroon housekeeping apron, but her chin was held high.
“This is Lupita Alvarez,” Ethan said, introducing her to the board. “She has been a dedicated employee of this hotel for twelve years. While the executive team was facilitating crime downstairs, Lupita was preserving the truth and protecting the dignity of this establishment. As of today, she is appointed to the new Board of Ethical Standards and Employee Welfare.”
Lupita looked at Ethan, her eyes filled with quiet gratitude and dignity.
The former board members looked at each other in bewildered silence, but no one dared to voice a single objection. They knew that Ethan’s decision was absolute, backed by both moral truth and undeniable legal power.
“Your security escorts are waiting outside to guide you to the HR department for exit processing,” Ethan said, taking a step back from the table. “Thank you for your time.”
Without waiting for another word, Ethan walked out of the boardroom, followed by Marcus and Lupita.
As they stepped into the sunlit hallway outside, Marcus looked over at his brother with an approving smile. “That was brutal, clean, and entirely necessary.”
“It was just the beginning,” Ethan said softly. “The Grand Regent is going to become what Sarah always wanted it to be—a place of safety, warmth, and genuine hospitality.”
Ethan pulled his phone from his pocket and looked at the clock. It was nearly noon.

“Where are you going now?” Marcus asked.
“I’m taking my daughter to the park,” Ethan replied with a faint, peaceful smile. “And then we’re going home.”
