Chapter 6 - The Morning of the Coronation-6

The sun broke over Oakville in a brilliant cascade of gold and steel, illuminating the towering glass monolith of Summit Enterprises. By 9:30 AM, the grand lobby was buzzing with media personnel, financial analysts, and corporate executives eager to witness the dawn of the "Barrett Era."
Inside the executive boardroom on the fiftieth floor, Gavin Barrett stood at the head of the mahogany conference table. He was dressed in a bespoke midnight-blue tuxedo, a diamond-encrusted tie pin catching the light from the floor-to-ceiling windows. He looked every bit the triumphant titan. Beside him, his mother Celina—once again draped in expensive jewelry and a smug, victorious grin—sat in the observer's chair, sipping imported champagne.
"Ladies and gentlemen," Gavin announced, his voice smooth and resonant as he addressed the twelve members of Summit’s board of directors. "As we all mourn the tragic passing of our beloved founder, Ross Albright, we must also look forward. The company faced severe financial vulnerabilities under previous leadership—vulnerabilities that I have spent the last forty-eight hours stabilizing through strategic asset consolidation and majority shareholder consolidation."
A murmur of approval rippled through several board members who had already been bought or intimidated by Gavin’s inner circle.
"With sixty percent of voting shares legally transferred to my name, and with my lovely wife Naomi currently... indisposed and stepping away from corporate affairs due to her grief," Gavin continued, smoothly gliding over my sudden disappearance, "I formally call for a unanimous board vote to ratify my appointment as permanent CEO and Chairman of Summit Enterprises."
He reached for the gavel, a triumphant gleam in his eye. He was three seconds away from securing absolute, irreversible control over a three-billion-dollar empire.
Downstairs in the subterranean parking garage, Marcus Vance and I stepped out of a sleek black town car. I adjusted the lapels of my tailored charcoal-gray suit, slipped on a pair of designer sunglasses, and checked my watch.
9:58 AM.
"Ready?" Marcus asked, offering me his arm.
"Born ready," I replied, a cool, unbreakable smile touching my lips.
We strode toward the private executive elevator bank. The digital display blinked upward, carrying us toward the fiftieth floor with silent, relentless speed.
At 10:04 AM, Gavin raised the wooden gavel in the boardroom, preparing to bring it down on the sounding block. "All in favor of ratification, say aye—"
Before the word could leave his mouth, the heavy soundproof double doors of the boardroom abruptly swung open with a sharp, echoing crash.

Every head in the room snapped toward the entrance.
There I stood, flanked by Marcus Vance and two federal marshals in crisp uniforms.
