Chapter 6 - The Short-Circuit Injunction-6

"The transmission finalizes in precisely forty-five seconds, Maya," Martin Pierce whispered, his finger tightening visibly around the trigger guard of the carbine. "Drop your device and order your federal friends to step back across the threshold. Now."
Agent Harris didn't lower her weapon. The tactical operators maintained their rock-steady aim, their laser indicators painting bright red dots across Martin's chest.
I took a slow, measured step forward, completely blocking Martin's line of sight to the primary server rack behind me.
"You built a clever network, Martin," I said, my voice dropping into a low, clinical baritone that carried the absolute weight of my years in forensic compliance. "You used a tired, overwhelmed mother as a cover identity. You thought because Brandon called me worthless and walked out the door, I wouldn't have the energy to look at the utility grid."
I held up my personal tablet, showing a neon-green countdown timer flashing on the screen.
"I didn't come here to negotiate for the servers, Martin. I came here to close the circuit."
With a sudden, violent heave, I didn't lunge for his weapon or try to dodge behind the console; I hurled a heavy iron demolition crowbar I had taken from the maintenance rack straight into the center of the high-voltage electrical transformer box mounted on the concrete pylon directly adjacent to the server racks.
CRASH-BOOM.
The heavy iron bar smashed through the protective fiberglass shielding, short-circuiting the main three-phase industrial power line running into the warehouse grid. A blinding, blue-white explosion of electrical arc fire erupted from the column, hissing violently as the rain leaking through the corrugated roof vents flooded the exposed circuits, showering the concrete floorboards in a rain of white plaster dust and sparks.

The automatic carbine discharged a wild, uncontrolled three-round burst into the concrete ceiling panels as Martin Pierce was thrown backward by the concussive force of the electrical blast, his weapon spinning off into the dark drainage trench below.
The entire vault was plunged into a pitch-black twilight, the high-density server mainframes grinding to a dead halt as the main circuit breakers tripped, leaving nothing but the green verification text on my mobile terminal flashing: CASCADE PURGE INTERRUPTED. SYSTEM DATA MIRRORED TO FEDERAL SERVERS AT 98.4%.
