Chapter 14 - The Honor of Liam-14

One year after the night at the Plaza Hotel, a solemn ceremony took place at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.
The morning sky was clear and blue, a gentle breeze rustling through the pristine white headstones stretching across the rolling green hills.
Military generals, cabinet members, state dignitaries, and over two hundred Special Forces soldiers in green berets stood in silent formation surrounding a newly erected granite memorial monument.
The Department of Defense had formally cleared Liam’s record, posthumously awarding Major Liam Sterling the Extraordinary Service Cross—the nation's second-highest military honor for valor—for his heroic actions in exposing corporate corruption and protecting national security at the cost of his own life.
I stood in the front row alongside Elena, who wore an elegant black dress, holding Leo in her arms.
The Secretary of the Army stepped forward, presented the folded American flag and the gold medal to Elena, and saluted her with profound respect.
"On behalf of a grateful nation, Mrs. Sterling," the Secretary spoke, his voice thick with emotion, "we honor your husband’s sacrifice, his courage, and his unyielding integrity."
Elena accepted the medal, pressing it gently against her heart, looking down at the white headstone where Liam’s name was carved in gold lettering:
MAJOR LIAM STERLING
BELOVED HUSBAND, FATHER, AND HERO
TRUTH PREVAILS
Little Leo reached out his tiny hand and touched the golden letters on the stone.
"Daddy was a hero, right, Grandpa?" Leo asked, looking up at me with his clear brown eyes—the exact same eyes my son had possessed.

I knelt down beside him, wrapping my arm around my grandson's shoulders.
"Yes, Leo," I whispered, tears smiling down my cheeks. "Your daddy was the greatest hero I ever knew. And he is watching over you every single day."
