Chapter 10 - THE ZENITH OF POWER

The private jet soared smoothly through the night skies above the Pacific Ocean, its engines humming a steady, soothing tune as it raced westward back toward the American continent. Inside the cabin, the heavy, tactical tension of the past forty-eight hours had melted away into absolute tranquility.
Hadrian sat in his plush leather seat, sipping a glass of aged bourbon, looking out the window at the distant, glittering constellations scattered across the velvet expanse of the night sky.
The destruction of Apex Maritime Holdings and the imprisonment of Viktor Chen marked the final, decisive blow against the shadow syndicates that had sought to bleed his empire dry. The global shipping lanes were secure. The corporate boardrooms were purged of corruption. And the name Kane was once again a symbol of untouchable, unyielding strength.
Marcus walked out from the cockpit, carrying a secure satellite communication tablet. He handed the device to Hadrian with a respectful nod.
"Secure transmission coming through from the estate, Mr. Hadrian," Marcus reported. "Mrs. Higgins patched it through the encrypted frequency."
Hadrian accepted the tablet, clicking the accept button. The screen instantly lit up, displaying the warm, cozy interior of the estate’s main living room.
Sitting on the Persian rug in front of a crackling stone fireplace was little Sorrel, wearing her favorite yellow duck pajamas, enthusiastically waving a small paper airplane at the camera.
"Daddy!" her voice echoed happily through the tablet’s speakers, clear and full of life. "Marcus the security man helped me build a giant airport out of couch cushions! When are you coming home?"
Hadrian felt the last remaining armor around his heart completely dissolve, a warm, genuine smile breaking across his sharp features.
"I'm on my way home right now, baby," Hadrian said, his voice dropping into that soft, tender register reserved only for his daughter. "I'll be there before you wake up tomorrow morning. Did you be a good girl for Mrs. Higgins?"
"The best girl!" Sorrel chirped proudly. "And I ate all my broccoli!"
"That's my girl," Hadrian laughed softly. "Put Mrs. Higgins on the phone for a moment, sweetheart."
A second later, the elderly housekeeper’s kind, lined face filled the screen. "Everything is peaceful here, Mr. Hadrian," Mrs. Higgins assured him quietly, a warm smile gracing her lips. "The house is quiet, the perimeter is secure, and Miss Sorrel hasn't had a single nightmare since you took care of those... unpleasant visitors."
"Thank you, Mrs. Higgins. For everything," Hadrian said sincerely. "Keep the lights on for me. I'll see you soon."

He ended the transmission, setting the tablet down on the walnut table. He leaned back in his leather seat, closing his eyes for a moment as the exhaustion of the past week finally began to pull at his muscles. But there was no anxiety left in his mind—only the quiet, unshakeable certainty of a father returning to his kingdom.
When the Gulfstream finally touched down on the private tarmac of the estate at dawn, the morning sun was just beginning to paint the sky in brilliant strokes of gold and rose. Hadrian stepped out of the aircraft into the crisp, clean air of home. He didn't wait for a car; he walked across the dew-kissed grass toward the grand oak doors of the mansion, ready to resume his rightful place as a father, a protector, and a king who would never let his guard down again.
