Chapter 9 - THE QUEEN'S DOMINION

-9-

The departure of Brandon Sterling felt less like a dramatic confrontation and more like sweeping a stubborn speck of dust off a polished mahogany table. It didn't ripple the surface of my life; it simply confirmed that the cleaning process was complete.

Three weeks after Brandon’s pathetic attempt at reconciliation, Harrison Technologies made global headlines once again—not through a hostile corporate takeover or a legal subpoena, but through an unprecedented technological triumph.

Sitting in the 80th-floor boardroom, surrounded by the world’s leading scientists, engineers, and financial analysts, I watched the live global broadcast of Project V going live.

On the massive LED screens, data streams representing our next-generation quantum satellite grid illuminated in brilliant shafts of blue and gold. Within seconds, secure, instantaneous, zero-latency communication networks blinked into existence across all seven continents, connecting remote medical clinics, educational institutions, and developing economies to the global digital grid—entirely free of charge.

It was my mother’s dream—a world where technology served to elevate humanity rather than divide it.

"Deployment successful across all sectors, Evangeline," Marcus announced, looking away from his master tablet with a rare, genuine smile breaking across his stern features. "Global bandwidth capacity has increased by four hundred percent. Latency is effectively zero. We’ve just permanently disrupted every legacy telecom monopoly on the planet."

A collective murmur of awe and respect rippled through the boardroom. The twelve executive directors seated around the obsidian table stood up in unison, breaking into a slow, resounding wave of applause.

I remained seated at the head of the table, resting my hands on the smooth surface of the dark wood. I didn't smile triumphantly; I felt a deep, profound sense of quiet satisfaction.

"Thank you, everyone," I said, my voice carrying clearly across the room as the applause subsided. "This isn't just a corporate victory. This is a fulfillment of our foundational promise. You can all take the rest of the week off with full executive bonuses."

As the board members filed out of the room, chattering excitedly among themselves, I remained in my chair, looking out at the magnificent panorama of Manhattan stretching out beneath the towering glass windows.

The sun was beginning to set, painting the sky in magnificent strokes of amber, purple, and deep crimson. The city that had once felt like a treacherous maze of snobs, wolves, and gold-diggers now felt entirely manageable—because I had learned the ultimate truth of the world.

Power isn't something given to you by birthright, by a man’s affection, or by a social register. Power is something you forge in the fire of betrayal, refine through absolute discipline, and wield with unyielding grace.

The girl in the forty-dollar yellow dress was dead.

And the Queen of Harrison Tower was here to stay.
