Chapter 15 - The Blueprint of Tomorrow

-15-

The rain had stopped by dawn, leaving the Hudson River enveloped in a thick, silvery morning mist that rolled across the manicured lawns of the Rossi estate. I stood on the grand balcony of the master east suite, wrapped in a heavy wool blanket, staring out at the horizon where the first pink rays of sunrise were beginning to pierce the clouds.

The door behind me clicked open.

Footsteps approached quietly across the hardwood floor, stopping a few feet away. I didn't turn around, but I could feel Nico’s presence—solid, warm, and heavy with unspoken choices.

“You didn't sleep,” Nico noted softly.

“Neither did you,” I replied, my voice hoarse from hours of silent crying.

A moment of heavy quiet passed between us, filled only by the distant calls of morning birds across the river.

“I spent the entire night in the archive room,” Nico said evenly, stepping closer until he was standing right beside me at the stone balustrade. He held out a thick, newly notarized legal document bound in blue cardstock.

I glanced down at it suspiciously. “What is this?”

“It’s the complete legal disestablishment of the Rossi Family Trust,” Nico replied, his dark eyes steady and unshakeable. “As of 5:00 AM this morning, I signed over fifty-one percent of my personal voting shares, matching real estate holdings, and liquid capital assets into an independent blind trust managed jointly by your foundation and a neutral third-party board.”

My eyes widened in absolute shock. I turned to look at him, my mouth opening slightly. “Nico... you gave away control of your entire empire? Just like that?”

“It wasn't an empire, Luna,” Nico said, a faint, weary smile touching his lips. “It was a cage. My father built it on ruthless ambition; Valentina tried to turn it into a monument for her own vanity; and I used it as a weapon to protect myself from ever being vulnerable again. But the truth is... I don't want the Rossi legacy anymore.”

He reached out, gently taking the legal document from my hands and setting it down on the stone ledge between us, before taking my hands in his.

“What I want,” Nico continued, his voice dropping into a deep, resonant whisper that stripped away every layer of defense he had ever worn, “is to build something new. Something that doesn't depend on what our grandfathers did, or what our families destroyed, or what debts were unpaid. Just you and me. Starting from zero.”

I stared up into his face, searching for any trace of regret, any hesitation, any hint of the cold corporate tactician I had met in the Grandon Hotel ballroom weeks ago. There was nothing left of him except the man who had held me in the dark, who had believed in my strength when I had none left, and who had just burned his own kingdom to the ground to prove that his loyalty belonged to me and me alone.

I let out a long, shaky breath, feeling the last remaining anchors of my past finally snap and dissolve into the morning air. The apartment where Liam and my sister had betrayed me, the ballroom where we had declared war, the dark archive vault filled with old ghosts—they were all behind us now.

“Zero,” I repeated softly, a genuine, radiant smile breaking across my face for the first time in days.

“Zero,” Nico confirmed, squeezing my hands tighter. “So... what do we write on the blank page first?”

May you like

I leaned forward, resting my forehead against his chest, listening to the steady, powerful rhythm of his heart beating beneath his shirt.

“Everything,” I whispered.
