Chapter 3 - The Forensic Ledger-3

The audio track on the video faded into a sharp, terrifying hiss of static as Caleb reached out on the screen, his fingers violently twisting Emily’s left wrist to force her hand down onto a digital signature pad. She fought him, her small body convulsing with a frantic, maternal strength as she kicked the kitchen table leg, knocking over a glass of water that splashed across the floorboards.
That was where the tiny crescent cuts beneath her fingernails had come from. She hadn't been clawing at a medical blanket; she had been clawing at her own brother-in-law's face to save the digital evidence core.
I closed my eyes for a fraction of a second, a cold, leaden weight settling deep into my gut, replacing the fury with a lethal, absolute detachment. The betrayal was complete. My mother and brother hadn't just been careless; they had engineered a systematic corporate execution inside my home to reclaim the multi-million-dollar real estate deeds my father had left exclusively to me and my heirs under the Vance Family Trust.
A sharp, heavy knock rattled the oak door of the study.
"Daniel! Open this door immediately!" Caleb’s voice bellowed from the hallway, his calm courtroom cadence completely gone, replaced by a jagged, breathless panic. "The county sheriff just pulled into the driveway with two state investigative units! What did you do? What did you tell them from the base line?!"
I didn't answer him through the wood. I clicked a secondary command line on my terminal board, executing a permanent decentralized blockchain broadcast that forwarded the raw video file and the cryptographic signature tokens straight to Special Agent Harris at the FBI’s Financial Crimes and Public Corruption Division in Washington.
I unbolted the door, swinging it open with a slow, deliberate movement.
Caleb stood in the dark corridor, his face completely bloodless, his hands shaking so violently he had dropped his whiskey glass onto the hardwood floor. Behind him, the front entry doors of the mansion were burst open, and Senior Detective Miller, followed by four heavily armed tactical operators wearing tactical vests with the letters SBI emblazoned across their chests, flooded the foyer.
"Daniel Vance," Detective Miller said, stepping past my mother’s frozen form in the living room, his service weapon drawn and steady at the low-ready position. "Our regional monitoring center flagged an emergency encryption broadcast from your terminal five minutes ago. We have the federal warrants finalized."

I stepped out into the hallway, my gray eyes locking onto Caleb's face with a freezing intensity that made him step back until his shoulders slammed against the wall pylon.
"The game is over, Caleb," I said, my voice dropping into a low, gravelly baritone that echoed off the high cedar ceilings. "The video Emily recorded... it didn't just document the assault. The metadata captured the active IP routing codes of the offshore shell firm you were running out of Nicosia to launder the trust funds. The federal marshals are asset-seizing your entire development firm as we speak."
