Chapter 4 - The Forensic Audit-4

The silence inside the central boardroom suite was heavy, thick with the smell of old copper, hot mainframes, and the sharp chemical tang of short-circuiting electrical lines from the lower levels. Dominic dropped to both knees on the shattered glass fragments of his champagne flute, his hands shaking violently as he looked at the parchment data sheets Victor had scattered across the desk terminal.
"Vivienne, please," Dominic sobbed, his teeth clenching so hard his jaw muscles pulsed violently beneath his sweat-slicked skin. "Listen to me. The child... Owen... he’s my biological son, yes, but I only married Julianna on paper to secure the municipal rezoning grants! Vance Financial was going to foreclose on our primary terminal blocks if I didn't integrate their infrastructure portfolio! I did it to save the family name, Vivienne! I did it for us!"
"You did it because you were greedy, Dominic," I said, looking down at his ruined form, my heart completely clear of the weight that had crushed me when I was sitting in our quiet valley cottage, waiting for a husband who never came home. "You spent four years using my personal administrative tokens—the digital signature devices I left in the home vault—to forge my authorization for every single offshore transfer you executed through Pan-Atlantic Holdings. You thought my family was just a quiet group of civil service clerks who could be easily ignored because we didn't show our names on the front page of the financial journals."
I reached into my handbag, pulled out the colorful paper heart necklace Sophia had made, and laid it flat on the mahogany desk beside his laptop terminal.
"She spent three hours making this for you, Dominic," I whispered, my voice dropping into a freezing, low register that resonated through the room. "She wanted her daddy to wear it at his big gala night. While she was cutting out those paper hearts with glitter and glue, you were sitting inside a luxury penthouse with Julianna Vance, drafting a custody petition that claimed I was 'unstable' and 'emotionally volatile' to ensure the court would strip me of my ancestral share rights."
"The transaction is finalized, Miss Vivienne," the lead federal cyber specialist said, his tactical flashlight painting a bright white beam through the smoky air as he monitored his digital tablet interface. "The master routing block for the eighty-five-million-dollar wire transfer has been permanently frozen by the federal treasury firewalls. The riverfront infrastructure deeds have been restored to the Sterling trust's exclusive outbound jurisdiction. The Nicosia accounts are completely dead."

Julianna Vance tried to sprint down the side corridor toward the private terrace exit doors, but two armed military police operators cut off her angle instantly, their tactical rifle barrels steady and rock-steady as they snapped heavy steel handcuffs around her manicured wrists.
"Take them all down to the county line holding facility," Victor ordered the operators, his face a hard mask of absolute professional finality. "Book them under a non-bailable federal racketeering hold. No exceptions."
