PART 5 — THE CONSORTIUM

The hallway outside Amelia's hospital room exploded into chaos.

Gunfire echoed through the emergency wing.

Patients screamed.

Nurses rushed for cover.

Security teams flooded the corridors.

And standing in the center of it all...

Daniel Hale looked like a man who had just seen a ghost.

Because he knew exactly who was coming.

And worse...

He knew why.

Amelia stared at him.

"The Consortium?"

Daniel closed his eyes.

For several seconds he said nothing.

Then he nodded.

Slowly.

Reluctantly.

Fearfully.

The reaction alone terrified everyone.

Because men who survive twenty-seven years in hiding do not scare easily.

Yet Daniel was terrified.

Rose locked the hospital room door.

Additional officers arrived.

Weapons drawn.

Protective positions established.

No one was taking chances anymore.

Not after the shooting.

Not after the deaths already linked to the case.

Not after hearing the name Daniel had spoken.

Finally Amelia asked:

"Who are they?"

The room fell silent.

Daniel sat heavily in a chair.

Suddenly looking much older than before.

As though carrying a weight that had become impossible to hide.

Then he began speaking.

Thirty years earlier...

Before Eleanor.

Before Margaret.

Before Amelia.

Before everything.

Daniel worked for a private intelligence network.

An organization that officially didn't exist.

A network built by billionaires.

Politicians.

Defense contractors.

Corporate dynasties.

People wealthy enough to influence governments.

People powerful enough to erase entire lives.

The network had a name.

A simple name.

A harmless name.

The Consortium.

At first Daniel believed they protected global stability.

That was the sales pitch.

The lie.

The illusion.

In reality...

They protected power.

Their power.

At any cost.

Witnesses disappeared.

Investigations collapsed.

Scandals vanished.

Competitors failed.

Whistleblowers died.

And nobody could prove anything.

Because the Consortium never appeared directly.

Only through intermediaries.

Law firms.

Banks.

Politicians.

Private security groups.

Corporate executives.

Invisible hands.

Invisible influence.

Invisible control.

Julian felt sick.

Because suddenly every secret uncovered so far seemed tiny.

The Whitmore family.

Eleanor.

Chloe.

The inheritance.

All of it looked small compared to this.

Daniel continued.

"I left when I learned what they were doing."

Rose nodded.

"Most people don't leave organizations like that."

Daniel laughed bitterly.

"No."

"They don't."

Then Amelia asked the question everyone was thinking.

"What does this have to do with me?"

Daniel's expression changed immediately.

The answer was obvious to him.

Terrifyingly obvious.

"Everything."

Silence.

Then he reached into his coat.

Rose immediately tensed.

But Daniel simply removed a worn photograph.

Old.

Faded.

Protected inside plastic.

He handed it to Amelia.

She looked down.

And froze.

The image showed three people.

Margaret.

Daniel.

And a little girl.

Perhaps three years old.

Smiling.

Happy.

Safe.

Amelia.

A life stolen before she could remember it.

Then she noticed something strange.

Another person stood in the background.

Partially hidden.

Watching.

Observing.

A man.

Daniel pointed at him.

"That's the reason they're here."

The room fell silent.

"Who is he?"

Amelia whispered.

Daniel's voice trembled.

Not from weakness.

From fear.

"His name is Adrian Blackwood."

Nobody recognized it.

Except Rose.

The detective suddenly went pale.

Very pale.

"No."

Daniel nodded.

"Yes."

Rose stepped backward.

For the first time since Amelia met her...

The detective looked genuinely shaken.

Because Adrian Blackwood wasn't merely wealthy.

He wasn't merely influential.

He wasn't merely connected.

He was considered one of the most powerful men in the world.

A billionaire whose companies touched nearly every major industry.

Technology.

Energy.

Defense.

Banking.

Media.

Healthcare.

Everything.

Officially.

He was a philanthropist.

A visionary.

A genius.

Unofficially...

He was believed to be the true architect behind the Consortium.

The man nobody could touch.

The man nobody could investigate.

The man nobody could stop.

And according to Daniel...

The man connected to Amelia.

"How?"

Rose finally asked.

Daniel looked toward Amelia.

Then answered.

"Because Adrian Blackwood is her grandfather."

The room froze.

Nobody spoke.

Nobody moved.

Nobody even seemed capable of breathing.

"What?"

Amelia whispered.

Daniel nodded slowly.

Margaret Hale wasn't born Margaret Hale.

Years earlier she had changed her identity.

Escaped.

Disappeared.

For one reason.

She was Adrian Blackwood's daughter.

The revelation hit like a bomb.

Because suddenly everything made sense.

The surveillance.

The resources.

The decades-long search.

The murder.

The cover-ups.

The obsession.

Amelia wasn't merely an heir to the Whitmore fortune.

She was heir to something much larger.

Much more dangerous.

Something worth hundreds of billions.

And according to Daniel...

Adrian Blackwood never intended to let her inherit it.

Then the hospital lights suddenly came back on.

Every screen activated simultaneously.

Every monitor.

Every television.

Every computer.

At first nobody understood why.

Then the image appeared.

A live broadcast.

Someone had hacked every device in the building.

A familiar face appeared.

Silver hair.

Perfect suit.

Calm smile.

Cold eyes.

Adrian Blackwood.

The room became silent.

The billionaire looked directly into the camera.

Almost as if he knew Amelia was watching.

Then he spoke.

"Good evening."

His voice was calm.

Pleasant.

Dangerously pleasant.

"Amelia."

Her blood ran cold.

"Twenty-seven years ago your mother stole something from me."

Silence.

"Then your father helped her disappear."

Daniel clenched his fists.

Adrian continued.

"I spent decades searching."

A pause.

"And now I've found you."

Nobody moved.

Nobody breathed.

Then Adrian smiled.

"I would prefer this to end peacefully."

The smile disappeared.

Instantly.

"But if necessary..."

His eyes became cold.

Absolutely cold.

"...I will burn every city between us."

The broadcast ended.

The screens went black.

And for several seconds the room remained completely silent.

Because everyone understood the same thing.

This was no longer about inheritance.

No longer about family.

No longer about secrets.

This had become a war.

And Adrian Blackwood had just declared it.

Then Rose's radio erupted with frantic voices.

Multiple units shouting at once.

Confusion.

Panic.

Emergency alerts.

"What happened?" she demanded.

The answer stunned everyone.

A private jet had just landed outside the city.

One passenger.

No customs clearance.

No authorization.

No explanation.

Yet every agency that tried to stop it received direct orders from above.

Orders to stand down.

Immediately.

Because the passenger wasn't Adrian Blackwood.

It was someone even he feared.

A woman.

A woman who disappeared twenty-seven years earlier.

A woman officially declared dead.

A woman whose return threatened to destroy everything.

Margaret Hale.

Amelia's mother.

May you like

And she was coming.
