Chapter 3 - Entering the Lion’s Den-3

The underground parking garage of the Vance Financial Investigations building was dim, secure, and smelled faintly of damp concrete and ozone. True to his word, Marcus was waiting by the private elevator bank, flanked by a tall, athletic man carrying a silver tech case and a severe-looking woman in a sharp gray pantsuit holding a leather binder.

As I parked my car and stepped out, Marcus strode forward, his face etched with grim determination. Without a word, he pulled me into a brief, powerful embrace before holding me at arm's length to inspect my expression.

"You're remarkably calm for a woman whose life is actively being stolen," Marcus observed, his keen eyes searching mine.

"Anger makes mistakes, Marcus. Precision makes checkmate," I replied, popping open my handbag and pulling out my phone. "Here is the master audio file. Every word, every laugh, every detail of their conspiracy."

I handed the phone to the tech specialist, who immediately connected it to his portable decryption unit via a specialized lightning cable. Within seconds, a visual waveform materialized on his laptop screen, accompanied by a clean, crystal-clear playback of Julian and Victoria’s voices echoing softly through the underground parking bay.

“Once the transfer is complete, she’s finished... No money. No access...”

The severe woman in the gray pantsuit—whom Marcus introduced as Sarah Jenkins, senior legal counsel for corporate fraud—let out a sharp, approving whistle.

"That’s not just grounds for invalidating a fraudulent property transfer," Sarah said, her pen tapping briskly against her notepad. "That constitutes explicit premeditated conspiracy to commit wire fraud, identity deception, and malicious financial sabotage. If we play our cards right, we can freeze every single corporate asset Julian touches before he clears TSA airspace in Miami."

"Can we freeze his personal business accounts as well?" I asked, stepping into the private elevator as the doors slid open.

"Not only can we freeze them, Clara, but we can also trace every single dollar he funneled out of your personal trust over the past year," Marcus explained as we ascended toward the penthouse suite. "Julian registered a shell company last month under a dummy corporation. Guess who the primary beneficiary listed on that shell company is?"

I narrowed my eyes. "Victoria Vance."

"Bingo," Marcus nodded grimly. "My niece has been skimming from your family estate to fund her expensive lifestyle while using Julian as her legal proxy. They thought they were being clever by keeping her name off the domestic property deeds, but corporate paper trails never lie. They left digital fingerprints all over the state registry."

We stepped out of the elevator directly into Marcus’s high-security command center. Wraparound computer monitors displayed live financial dashboards, banking routing numbers, and corporate registries. The atmosphere was charged with intense, intellectual energy.

"Alright, team," Marcus announced, clapping his hands together. "Here is the game plan. Sarah, you will draft an emergency injunction for the Denver District Court citing coercion, fraud, and mental distress during the execution of those quitclaim deeds. Attach the audio file and certified forensic voice identification logs."

"Done," Sarah said, sitting down at a terminal and flying her fingers across the keyboard.

"Tech lead, initiate a Level-4 trace on Julian’s corporate accounts at First Colorado Bank. The moment he attempts to execute the final wire transfer tomorrow morning, trigger an automatic freeze protocol tied to our court injunction."

"Initiating trace now," the tech specialist replied, his fingers a blur of motion.

I walked over to the floor-to-ceiling glass window, looking out over the panoramic view of downtown Denver. The clouds were parting, letting shafts of golden afternoon sunlight pierce through the haze. Julian thought he was pulling off the heist of his life. He thought he was leaving me stranded, penniless, and broken.

He didn't realize that by trying to steal my father’s legacy, he had just given me every legal justification required to strip him of everything he had ever built—including the clothes on his back.
