Chapter 14 - THE FIRST SNOW

-14
The first major snowstorm of the year blanketed the suburbs in a thick, pristine layer of white by Saturday morning. The world outside was muffled and still, transformed into a glittering winter wonderland.
Lily woke up at 6:00 AM, bounding down the stairs with breathless excitement, shouting, "Daddy! Daddy, it snowed! The whole yard is white!"
Within minutes, we were bundled up in heavy snowsuits, woolen hats, and waterproof boots, stepping out onto the untouched canvas of our backyard. The crisp, freezing air stung our cheeks, but the sheer joy of the moment banished the cold.
We spent two hours building an lopsided snowman near the back patio, complete with a carrot nose, two coal eyes, and an old woolen scarf wrapped around its neck. Noah sat propped up in his heavy winter stroller, bundled like a tiny astronaut, watching the spectacle with wide, mesmerized eyes while gurgling happily at the falling snowflakes.
As I rolled a massive snowball for the base of a second, smaller snow-creature, Lily ran over, her breath pluming into white clouds, and threw her arms around my waist, burying her face in my heavy winter coat.
"Daddy," she muffled into the fabric. "This is the best Saturday ever."
I stopped rolling the snow, dropped to one knee, and wrapped my arms around her winter-suited frame, pulling her tight against my chest.

"It really is, sweetheart," I whispered, pressing my cheek against her warm beanie. "It really is."
We stood there together in the center of the snowy yard—just a father and his children, anchored by an unbreakable bond forged in fire and protected by truth. The past was a closed chapter, locked away in a digital vault behind us. The future was wide open, bright, and covered in untouched white snow.
