Chapter 8 - The Federal Net Closes-8

The living room descended into utter chaos.
Walter was tackled to the rug before he could even turn around, two heavy tactical operators slamming his body weight flat against the floorboards and snapping cold steel handcuffs around his wrists. He screamed in pain and fury, his face pressed against the very rug where my daughter had been forced to stand in terror hours earlier.
Heather shrieked hysterically, throwing herself behind the sofa cushions as an agent secured her hands behind her back. Lydia collapsed onto her knees near the kitchen island, weeping uncontrollably, her hands clutching her head as the reality of her family's total destruction crushed her.
Elmer froze in the center of the room, his hands raised high in the air, his body trembling violently as Agent Sarah Harris stepped through the ruined doorway, holding a high-level federal arrest warrant.
"Elmer Crosswell, Walter Crosswell, Heather Crosswell, and Lydia Crosswell," Agent Harris announced in a voice that carried the absolute finality of an executioner's axe. "You are all under arrest for federal wire fraud, international money laundering, grand larceny, child abuse and endangerment, identity theft, and racketeering under the RICO statutes."
Agent Harris walked straight up to Elmer, looking him dead in the eye as an operator forced his arms behind his back.
"Your secondary server at Terminal 4 was seized by federal agents twenty minutes ago, Mr. Crosswell," Harris informed him ruthlessly. "Your Cypriot accounts have been permanently frozen by order of the United States District Court. Every dollar you stole using your wife's identity has been recovered."
Elmer looked past Agent Harris, his eyes finding mine as I stood safely near the threshold, my arms crossed over my coat, my posture erect, dignified, and entirely untouchable.
"Joanna..." Elmer choked out, tears spilling down his pale cheeks. "Please... don't let them do this... I'm your husband..."

"My husband died the moment you let your mother lay a hand on my daughter's hair," I said softly, my voice carrying zero emotion. "Enjoy your life sentence, Elmer."
I turned on my heel and walked out of the apartment, leaving the screaming, weeping ruins of the Crosswell family behind me forever as the federal marshals escorted them out in chains.
