Chapter 6 - The Short-Circuit Matrix6

CRASH-BOOM.

The heavy iron bar smashed through the protective fiberglass shielding, short-circuiting the main three-phase industrial power line running into the warehouse grid. A blinding, blue-white explosion of electrical arc fire erupted from the box, hissing violently as the pouring rain leaking through the corrugated roof vents flooded the exposed circuits.

The automatic carbine fired a wild, uncontrolled three-round burst into the concrete ceiling panels as Brenda was thrown backward by the sheer concussive force of the electrical blast, her weapon flying from her hands and spinning off into the dark waters of the shipping canal drainage trench below.

The entire warehouse was plunged into a sudden, pitch-black twilight, the high-density server mainframes grinding to a dead halt as the main circuit breakers tripped, leaving nothing but the vibrant neon-green countdown timer on my personal mobile device flashing down toward zero in the dark.

The heavy iron double doors at the front loading dock were suddenly shattered inward with a violent, hydraulic screech of tearing metal. Special Agent Harris, followed by twenty heavily armed FBI tactical operators with their high-intensity searchlights cutting through the smoky darkness, flooded the warehouse floor, their weapons raised and steady as they secured the perimeter.

"Federal agents! Nobody move! Put your hands on your heads!" the lead tactical operator bellowed, his voice carrying an absolute, inescapable federal authority that finalized the total destruction of the Crosswell family syndicate.

I moved with clinical speed through the shadows, my heavy utility boots kicking the dropped carbon-fiber box clear of the water trenches before the backup generator systems could execute a automatic line reset. The unedited corporate registries... the physical hardware signature tokens Brenda had used to clone my identity... they were completely secured inside our static-shielded evidence bags before the first clearing bell could sound in New York.
