Chapter 5 - Storage Unit 108-5

Sitting at the master terminal console inside the inner chamber of Unit 108, her expensive yellow silk dress thrown over the back of a metal tool chest, her fingers moving with clinical speed across a mechanical keyboard, was my sister Brenda. Beside her laptop screen sat my mother’s original carbon-fiber document box—the exact ledger container our security teams had been searching for since the initial nursery confrontation.

"Step away from the keyboard, Brenda!" my voice roared through the concrete room like a pipe clap of thunder, my hands flat against my sides as Agent Harris stepped into the light with her weapon raised. "Federal agents! Put your hands on your head and step away from the desk!"

Brenda didn't panic. She didn't turn around to argue or plead for a corporate settlement or a million-dollar compromise. With a single, smooth, practiced movement, her right hand reached beneath the administrative desk console, her hand emerging with a short-barreled compact automatic carbine, leveling the barrel straight at Harris’s chest before the plaster dust could even clear from the doorway frame.

"You really are a remarkably stubborn man, Kenneth," Brenda hissed, a cold, ruthless smile touching her lips as her knuckles turned a sharp, bloodless white beneath the amber glare of the emergency lights. "The Nicosia wire may be frozen, but the master utility framework for this entire county is still linked to our mother's private trust network in Europe. If you take another step... I will execute an immediate thermal runaway script, vaporizing every digital footprint of your family trust before the courts can even assign a defense attorney to my file."

"The foundation doesn't rely on your state commissioners, Brenda," I said, my voice dropping into a low, gravelly baritone that carried the absolute weight of my forensic career. "And my grandfather’s heirs aren't an asset on your ledger anymore. They’re the kids who watched their family break an electronic vault with a fire ax. They know exactly what the truth looks like when it comes through the door."

With a sudden, violent heave, I didn't lunge toward the gun; I hurled a heavy steel crowbar straight into the center of the massive, high-voltage electrical transformer box mounted on the concrete pylon directly adjacent to the server racks.
