Chapter 9 - The Embassy Fall-9

At that exact same moment, three miles away inside the glass-and-steel conference room of the United States Embassy on Nine Elms Lane, Harrison Vance was standing at the head of a long marble table.

Sitting across from him were three senior directors of Credit Suisse Atlantic and his lead British corporate solicitor.

On the table sat Harrison’s laptop, connected to a secure, high-speed fiber-optic terminal line.

"Gentlemen," Harrison said smoothly, adjusting his gold cufflinks and flashing his million-dollar executive smile. "We are ready to execute the final equity transfer for the Port of Newark acquisition. $180 million will be routed from Noraline Holdings directly into the development escrow account."

He pulled his physical, Tier-1 Executive Clearance Token from his pocket—a small, silver hardware device with an LED display.

He pressed his thumb flat against the token’s biometric glass scanner. The token emitted a soft chime, generating an eight-digit one-time authorization code on its screen: 884-992-01.

Harrison typed the eight digits into the laptop portal, hitting the master EXECUTE key with a triumphant, arrogant flick of his finger.

"To a new era of global logistics," Harrison declared, picking up his crystal water glass to toast his partners.

The laptop screen turned dark red.

A high-pitched, metallic alarm tone buzzed through the laptop speakers—a tone Harrison had never heard in his twenty years of corporate banking.

A massive, full-screen diagnostic overlay covered the portal:

CRITICAL SECURITY BREACH: HARDWARE CLONE DETECTED.

MASTER KEYS COMPROMISED VIA INTERNAL MIRROR SCRIPT.

ALL ASSOCIATED ACCOUNTS (CYPRUS / ZURICH / PANAMA) PERMANENTLY QUARANTINED BY ORDER OF THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE.

Harrison’s glass slipped from his fingers, shattering against the marble table, spilling water across his legal briefs.

"What..." Harrison stammered, his face going completely white. "What is this? This is a system glitch! Reset the terminal!"

His British solicitor looked at his tablet, his eyes widening in pure horror as his email inbox was flooded with automated alerts.

"Harrison..." the solicitor whispered, his voice trembling violently. "It’s not a glitch. Look at the international legal registry. All of Vance Global's assets... every single subsidiary account... has just been frozen under a federal RICO indictment."

Before Harrison could form a response, the heavy double doors of the embassy conference room were thrown open.

Two special agents from the FBI's Legal Attaché office, accompanied by four armed Diplomatic Security Service officers, walked into the room.

The lead agent, an unyielding veteran named Special Agent Miller, held up a certified copy of an extra-jurisdictional arrest warrant bearing the gold seal of the United States District Court.

"Harrison Vance," Agent Miller announced, his voice echoing through the high-ceilinged room like thunder. "You are under arrest for Federal Wire Fraud, Bank Fraud, Bribery of a Judicial Officer, Identity Theft, and Racketeering under the RICO statutes."

Harrison took a frantic, panicked step backward toward the glass window. "You can't arrest me here! This is an international corporate negotiation! I have diplomatic immunity through my advisory board position!"

"Your advisory board position was revoked thirty minutes ago when your corporate board surrendered to federal prosecutors in Chicago, Mr. Vance," Agent Miller countered flatly.

Two DSS officers stepped forward, driving Harrison’s arms behind his tailored suit jacket, pinning his wrists, and snapping cold steel handcuffs around his wrists.

"This is a mistake!" Harrison screamed, his arrogant composure dissolving into a wave of raw, pathetic, unhinged panic as he was forced to his knees on the marble floor. "Call my lawyers! Call Marcus Croft! Call the Governor!"

"Marcus Croft was arrested twenty minutes ago in Richmond, Harrison," Agent Miller added coldly, looking down at the shivering billionaire. "Your son made sure we had every text message you ever sent him."
