PART 5: The Masterpiece of Revenge

"When Vanessa had you arrested, she thought she had cleared the board," Derek explained, his voice entirely devoid of warmth as he watched the screen. "She didn't realize that the security guards she hired were from an agency that my firm owns. The guards texted me the moment she ordered them to plant the bracelet in your bag. I let the arrest happen, Clara. I needed her to believe she had won, so she would proceed with the theft. In the eyes of the law, corporate espionage is hard to prove without definitive execution. She is currently executing it."

Clara stared at the billionaire, a profound sense of awe washing over her. "What are you going to do?"

"I’ve already posted your bail. The charges have been officially dropped, and the police chief is currently waiting down the street from my house with a warrant for federal grand larceny and economic espionage," Derek said, standing up and closing his briefcase. "Come on, Clara. Let's go home. It's time to show Vanessa exactly what happens when you call a masterpiece 'garbage.'"

An hour later, the sleek black SUV pulled up to the Whitmore estate. Clara and Derek stepped out, accompanied by four plainclothes federal agents and the local police chief. The front door was unlocked.

They walked silently up the grand staircase and entered the wide sitting room. Vanessa was there, pouring herself a celebratory glass of expensive scotch, the glowing silver flash drive sitting prominently on the coffee table beside her designer handbag.

When she heard the footsteps and turned around, the glass slipped from her manicured hand, shattering completely on the marble floor. The amber liquid splashed across her white designer shoes.

"Derek!" Vanessa gasped, her face turning an ash-gray color, her voice cracking. "What... what are you doing here? You're supposed to be in California. And why is she here? She’s a criminal! She belongs in a cell!"

"The only person who belongs in a cell, Vanessa, is you," Derek said, stepping into the room, his hands casually tucked into his pockets.

Vanessa tried to recover her composure, a forced, defensive laugh bubbling up. "What are you talking about? Are you insane? I'm your fiancée! I'm an heiress! This peasant stole from me!"

"You're not an heiress, Vanessa," Derek said, his voice cutting through the room like a razor blade. "Your father’s company went into shadow liquidation fourteen months ago. I’ve known about your family’s financial collapse for forty-eight hours. But what I didn't know until Clara told me was that you were planning to sell my core AI architecture to Richard Vance at Apex Cybernetics to pay off your debts."

Vanessa’s eyes darted frantically toward the silver flash drive on the table. She made a sudden, desperate dive for it, but one of the federal agents moved with lightning speed, blocking her path and securing the drive in a plastic evidence bag.

"The drive you just downloaded doesn't contain my core algorithm, Vanessa," Derek said, a dark, brilliant smile finally breaking across his face. "It contains a highly sophisticated trace-route Trojan virus. The moment your contact at Apex tries to plug that drive into their primary servers, it will completely wipe their entire database and upload their internal corporate records directly to the Department of Justice. You didn't just destroy yourself today, Vanessa. You destroyed the company that paid you to betray me."

Vanessa sank to her knees, her perfect blonde hair falling wild around her face, her tears smudging her expensive makeup. She looked up at Clara, her eyes full of venomous, desperate hatred. "This is your fault! You and your disgusting, pathetic child! You ruined my life!"

Clara stood tall, looking down at the broken woman on the floor. She didn't feel anger anymore; she felt only a deep, profound pity.

"My mother told me that integrity belongs to you, Miss Holt," Clara said softly, her voice echoing with absolute dignity. "You gave yours away for a price tag. My daughter’s painting didn't cost a dime, but it was worth more than everything you'll ever own."

The federal agents stepped forward, lifting Vanessa by her arms and clicking heavy iron handcuffs around her wrists. They led her down the grand staircase, her screams of rage and despair fading away into the Scottsdale afternoon.
