“Yes.”
“You voluntarily paid?”
“Yes.”
“So it is possible you approved broader support and later regretted?”
“No.”
“How can jury distinguish?”
“Because I don’t regret the payments I chose. I dispute the debts I didn’t.”
That felt strong.
Defense showed fake emails.
Forensic examiner dismantled.
Then asked why I didn’t notice fake account.
“Because it wasn’t mine.”
Simple.

I denied.
Mortgage.
Theresa testified.
She admitted signing without reading.

Daniel took stand.

Then fake email account.
“Why create account?”
“It was shared household finance.”
“Did Mariana know password?”
“I assumed.”
Prosecutor showed draft:
Need Mari consent reword. Make casual.
He struggled.
Then family liquidity map.
“Who wrote ‘resistance risk low until direct awareness’?”
Daniel.
“What does that mean?”
“She trusted me.”
That answer killed.
Trusted.
He used trust as risk assessment.
Prosecutor:
“And when she became directly aware?”
Daniel looked toward me.
“She stopped paying.”
“Yes.”
“And what happened?”
“Everything collapsed.”
Prosecutor:
“Because she caused collapse?”
“Yes.”
There.
Then prosecutor:
“Or because she stopped concealing one?”
Silence.
Jury convicted multiple counts.
Bank fraud.
Wire fraud.
Aggravated identity theft.
Investor fraud.
Money laundering related circular transfers.
Not every count.
Enough.
Sentence:
Eleven years federal.
Restitution $5.2 million.
Forfeiture D.H. assets.
Concurrent? Divorce already. No other crime.
Daniel cried at sentencing.
He apologized.
But still:
“I never intended to hurt my family.”
Judge said:
“Intent to enrich or preserve yourself while knowingly placing risks on others is harm.”
Exactly.
I did not speak at sentencing.
I had already testified.
Not every closure needs victim statement.
I watched.
Then left.
Theresa asked:
“Do you want dinner?”
I almost laughed.
“Yes.”
We went diner.
I ordered steak.
