Chapter 11 - THE NEW DOMAIN

-24

The "neutral property" Sebastian had purchased turned out to be a stunning, modern limestone estate situated on a quiet, heavily wooded peninsula overlooking Lake Michigan, completely isolated from the prying eyes of society columnists, corporate spies, and family enforcers. Surrounded by thick wrought-iron gates, advanced biometric security scanners, and private acreage, it was a sanctuary designed to keep the violent chaos of the outside world firmly at bay.

For the first week, we lived in a blissful, secluded bubble.

The triplets treated the expansive new house like an amusement park, running down the wide, hardwood hallways, exploring the sunlit conservatory, and playing for hours on the emerald lawn that sloped gently down toward the rocky shoreline of the lake. Chloe had taken over the spacious, gourmet kitchen, happily experimenting with high-end appliances while humming cheerful tunes that replaced the heavy, anxious tension of our old apartment.

Sebastian spent his days locked in the state-of-the-art home office, executing a surgical, systemic dismantling of Vale Industries’ corrupt corporate infrastructure.

I stood in the doorway of his study one afternoon, holding a tray with a fresh cup of coffee and a sandwich, watching him work. Three separate computer monitors glowed with lines of financial code, corporate restructuring documents, and encrypted legal briefs. He hadn't slept more than four hours a night since we returned from Switzerland, but the desperate, hunted look in his eyes had been replaced by the cold, calculated brilliance of a man reclaiming his birthright.

"You're going to burn yourself out," I said softly, walking over to the desk and setting the tray down beside his keyboard.

Sebastian paused, leaning back in his leather executive chair, rubbing the bridge of his nose with a tired sigh. He looked up at me, a faint, affectionate smile breaking across his face. "I'm not burning out, Alyssa. I'm just cleaning up thirty years of my grandfather's garbage."

"What’s the status on Daniel?" I asked, pulling up a chair and sitting down beside him.

"Daniel is currently sitting in a federal holding facility downtown," Sebastian said, a dark, humorless satisfaction flashing in his gray eyes. "His assets have been completely seized under RICO forfeiture laws, his defense attorneys have all recused themselves to avoid federal indictment, and the grand jury formally returned a twenty-count indictment against him this morning for corporate embezzlement, fraud, and conspiracy to commit violence."

I let out a slow, steady breath. "And old Arthur?"

Sebastian’s smile faded, replaced by a heavy, solemn gravity. "My grandfather is eighty-four years old and sitting alone in the master wing of the Vale Tower, completely isolated. The board of directors stripped him of his executive voting rights yesterday afternoon. He has no corporate power, no leverage, and no allies left. He’s just an old man sitting in an empty throne, waiting for a history that has already moved on without him."

"Are you going to see him?" I asked quietly, searching Sebastian’s face.

"No," Sebastian replied without a single second of hesitation. "Arthur Vale ceased being my grandfather the moment he authorized a hit on my children. He can live out the remainder of his miserable life surrounded by ghosts and silence."

Before I could respond, the office door swung open, and Noah poked his head in, holding a broken toy truck in his small hands.

"Daddy? Can you fix my truck? The wheel fell off," Noah asked, his big gray eyes looking up at Sebastian with absolute, unconditional adoration.

The terrifying billionaire CEO, the ruthless corporate strategist who had just dismantled an international syndicate, melted instantly. Sebastian’s face lit up with a brilliant, genuine smile. He stood up from his desk, scooped Noah up into his arms, and kissed his cheek.

"Of course I can fix it, buddy," Sebastian said, walking out of the study with our son perched on his shoulders. "Let's go find your uncle Ewan in the garage—he's got the heavy-duty superglue."

I sat alone in the quiet study, watching them leave, feeling a profound, unshakeable warmth spread through my chest. The broken pieces of our past had finally been gathered up, mended, and forged into something unbreakable.
