PART 5 — THE WOMAN WHO STOLE A DEAD WOMAN'S NAME

The security officer's words echoed through the hospital room.
"They're here for the babies."
For a split second, nobody moved.
Then everything exploded into motion.
Federal marshals drew their weapons.
Hospital security locked down the floor.
Doctors rushed patients into protected rooms.
Alarms screamed through the building.
And somehow, in the center of the chaos, the twins remained asleep.
As if they had no idea entire empires were collapsing around them.
I looked down at them.
Tiny.
Fragile.
Innocent.
Then a horrifying realization struck me.
This wasn't about money anymore.
Nobody sends armed men into a hospital for money.
This was about something far bigger.
Something worth killing for.
Victor Langford immediately turned toward the marshals.
"Seal every exit."
One of the agents shook his head.
"They already cut power to three security zones."
Victor's expression darkened.
"How many?"
The marshal answered immediately.
"At least twelve armed suspects."
The room froze.
Twelve.
Not kidnappers.
Not thieves.
A team.

A professional operation.
Then another voice came through the security radio.
"Shots fired on level one."
A nurse screamed somewhere down the hallway.
Another radio crackled.
"Two officers down."
Silence filled the room.
Because suddenly everyone understood.
This wasn't a threat.
This was an assault.
Then Sylvie looked directly at me.
And whispered:
"They found us."
I stared at her.
"Who?"
Her answer came instantly.
"The Foundation."
Victor closed his eyes.
As if hearing the name physically hurt him.
And that terrified me more than anything else.
Because Victor Langford feared almost nobody.
Yet he feared them.
Then Dr. Harris spoke.
"What exactly is the Foundation?"
Nobody answered immediately.
Finally Victor did.
"The people who created Project Genesis."
The room became silent again.
Because suddenly the picture was becoming clearer.
Genesis wasn't Victor's project.
He merely funded it.
The real architects were someone else.
Someone hidden.
Someone powerful enough to stay invisible for decades.
Then another explosion shook the building.
Closer this time.
Much closer.
The walls rattled.
Lights flickered.
A nurse outside screamed.
And suddenly another person entered the room.
Not security.
Not police.
An elderly woman.
Gray hair.
Hospital uniform.
She looked ordinary.
Harmless.
Forgettable.
Yet the moment Victor saw her...
He went pale.
"Impossible."
The woman smiled.
Slowly.
Calmly.
Dangerously.
Then she removed her hospital badge.
And spoke.
"Hello, Victor."
The billionaire actually stepped backward.
The room froze.
Because fear appeared in his eyes.
Real fear.
Then Sylvie gasped.
"No."
The elderly woman turned toward her.
"My dear."
Her smile widened.
"You've made everything so complicated."
I looked between them.
"What is happening?"
Nobody answered.
Then the woman reached into her pocket.
And placed a photograph on the hospital bed.
A photograph of Rachel Mercer.
The real Rachel Mercer.
Dead.
Very dead.
A morgue photograph.
Official.
Undeniable.
My stomach dropped.
Because if Rachel was truly dead...
Then who called me earlier?
The woman seemed to read my mind.
Then she answered.
"The woman who called you wasn't Rachel."
Silence.
"She stole Rachel's identity."
The room froze.
Then Victor whispered a name.
One name.
A name that clearly terrified him.
"Helena."
The old woman smiled.
"Good."
A pause.
"I'm pleased you remember me."
Then she looked directly at me.
And suddenly every instinct in my body screamed danger.
Because her eyes contained something unnatural.
Not madness.
Conviction.
The kind that destroys lives.
The kind that starts wars.
Then Helena spoke.
"Damon Blackthorn."
The name hit me like a freight train.
Not Vexley.
Blackthorn.
My biological family.
My real family.
The family I had supposedly never known.
Helena nodded.
"At last."
She sounded almost emotional.
"As it should have been."
Then she delivered another impossible revelation.
"The twins were never the objective."
Silence.
"What?"
Helena pointed toward me.
"You were."
The room went still.
Completely still.
Because suddenly every piece shifted.
The adoption.
The murder.
Rachel.
The Foundation.
The hospital attack.
Maybe none of it was about the babies.
Maybe it was always about me.
Then Helena opened a small leather folder.
Inside sat a faded document.
Forty years old.
A birth record.
One infant.
Male.
Born under the name:
Damon Alexander Blackthorn
Then another record.
A second infant.
Female.
Rachel Elizabeth Blackthorn
Twins.
The room spun.
Because suddenly everything made sense.
Rachel wasn't my half-sister.
She was my twin sister.
The twin stolen alongside me.
The twin who spent her life protecting me.
The twin who died because of secrets neither of us understood.
Then Helena quietly revealed the worst truth of all.
Rachel hadn't been murdered eighteen months earlier.
She'd been murdered three weeks ago.
Silence.
"What?"
Helena nodded.
"The woman pretending to be Rachel kept her alive."
Another pause.
"Until she no longer needed her."
I felt sick.
Because somewhere out there...
A woman was wearing my sister's identity.
Using her face.
Using her history.
Using her life.
Then Helena spoke the name.
The name of the woman who had manipulated everyone.
The woman behind the calls.
The messages.
The secrets.
The lies.
The woman who orchestrated everything.
"Vivian Cross."
The room exploded.
Because Victor instantly recognized the name.
And whatever he knew...
It terrified him.
Then another explosion shook the hospital.
This time directly beneath us.
The floor cracked.
Ceiling tiles crashed downward.
People screamed.
And over the hospital intercom, a calm female voice suddenly echoed through every hallway.
Every room.
Every floor.
"Good evening."
My blood froze.
Because I recognized the voice immediately.
The woman who called me.
The woman pretending to be Rachel.
Vivian.
Then her voice continued.
"Damon Blackthorn."
Silence.
"Bring me the twins."
A pause.
"And I'll tell you which one survives."
The entire room went cold.
Because for the first time...
May you like
The real war had finally begun.
