Chapter 3 - The Shadow of the Annex-3

The high-definition projection monitors mounted along the marble walls of the family court flickered violently, the white light casting long, shifting shadows across Adrian's gray face as the decentralized blockchain transfer began to render across the network topology map.
The multi-billion-dollar logistics conglomerate he had used to crush his competitors and remove people from his life like they were empty paper cups... it was no longer his property. The screen displayed an absolute, non-revocable asset quarantine state: CONTROLLING SHARES TRANSFERRED TO THE NOAH VALE TRUST. EXECUTIVE ACCESS CLEARANCE: TERMINATED.
"This is an illegal data-wipe cascade!" Adrian's lead defense attorney, Edward Croft, shrieked, his fingers flying across his mechanical keyboard as he tried to force a remote administrative override command through his firm's secure servers downtown. "Your Honor! This court cannot validate an automatic property seizure based on a fifteen-year-old maritime investment covenant! We are demanding an immediate administrative recess to file an injunction with the state circuit court!"
"The request for a recess is denied, Mr. Croft," Judge Evelyn Hart said, her gravelly baritone offering zero room for negotiation as she leaned forward over her high-backed mahogany bench. Her sharp gray eyes locked onto Adrian’s shivering form. "The Owens Family Trust operating charters are registered under an extra-jurisdictional federal maritime defense act pylon. This court has verified the digital signature tokens and the forensic communication diaries. The asset allocation remains under a national security lock. Marshal, secure the respondent’s personal data devices immediately."
Two uniform federal operators stepped past the counsel aisle, their heavy boots splashing against the wet condensation tracking from the doorway as they cornered Adrian against his desk console. With a smooth, clinical movements, they stripped his mobile terminals and his passport folder from his pockets, the steel handcuffs snapping around his wrists with a sharp, mechanical click that finalized his total operational destruction.
Adrian fell heavily back into his leather chair, his face completely bloodless, his breathing short and ragged as he looked up at me through the white track lamps. The brilliant, younger billionaire who had dominated LaSalle Street was gone, replaced by a broken patsy who had destroyed his own multi-billion-dollar future because he believed his wife’s quiet silence was a symptom of childhood blindness.

"Evelyn... please," Adrian whispered, his eyes wide with a sudden, primitive terror as Nora Lang—his primary consulting partner and mistress—slowly removed her hand from his coat sleeve, stepping away from his table toward the gallery exit doors. "Think about the family... think about what my father built... we can settle this inside the private office annex... I’ll give you the penthouse... I’ll sign over forty percent of the liquid reserves..."
"I don't need your reserves, Adrian," I said, adjusting Noah's blanket against my shoulder as I walked toward the swinging double doors of the exit gate. "My son already owns the building."
