Chapter 9 - The Fall of the Matriarch-9

The room fell into an absolute, suffocating silence, broken only by the sharp, metallic clink of the handcuffs being unholstered.

Marcus Reed didn't even attempt to fight. His expensive corporate polish vanished in a second; he immediately put his hands behind his back, looking at Eleanor with pure, unadulterated venom. "I told you we should have waited, you crazy old woman," Reed muttered under his breath. "I told you the camera system in that house was a liability!"

"Shut up, Marcus!" Eleanor roared, struggling violently as the state troopers grabbed her wrists. "Keep your hands off me! Do you have any idea who I am? I am Eleanor Vance! I own half the commercial developments in this county! Julian! Tell them to stop! Tell them this is a family misunderstanding!"

I stood by the conference table, my arms crossed over my chest, watching her struggle. I felt no satisfaction, no joy, no rush of triumph—only a cold, hollow pity for the woman who had spent thirty-four years pretending she loved me.

"You told me yesterday that I would crawl back to you for help before the week was over," I said, my voice calm, steady, and loud enough for everyone in the room to hear. "You were wrong, Eleanor. You are going to spend the rest of your life answering to a judge."

"You ungrateful, spineless coward!" she screamed as the troopers forced her arms behind her navy jacket, snapping the steel cuffs around her wrists with a heavy, final click. "I gave you everything! I raised you! And you throw your own mother to the wolves for a pathetic, weak girl who couldn't even cook a simple dinner without passing out?!"

"That 'weak girl'," I said, stepping right up to her face as the troopers began guiding her toward the door, "is the mother of my son. And she has more strength in her little finger than you have in your entire soul."

The troopers dragged Eleanor out of the executive suite. Her high-pitched, hysterical screams echoing down the marble hallway of the Vance Tower, bouncing off the glass walls until the elevator doors closed, cutting off her voice forever.

The remaining board members sat in utter silence, unable to look me in the eye.

The senior trustee cleared his throat nervously, picking up a pen. "Mr. Vance... Julian... regarding the corporate management of the trust... under these circumstances, the board will immediately suspend Eleanor's administrative role and initiate a full audit."

"I don't care about the board right now," I said, buttoning my jacket and looking at my cousin David. "My attorney will handle the legal restructuring of the estate. All funds will be placed into an independent, irrevocable educational trust for my son Leo, with Clara designated as the sole legal guardian."

I turned on my heel and walked out of the boardroom, leaving thirty-four years of toxic manipulation, control, and fear behind me in the dust.
