Chapter 2 - The Cryptographic Smoke Screen-2

The private office terminal inside Nathaniel Whitmore’s third-floor study was a windowless, timber-lined vault that smelled faintly of old leather registries, cold espresso, and the sharp chemical tang of high-density server blades humming in the dark.
The air conditioning was turned up to an icy frequency that made his shoulders tense beneath his wrinkled civilian wool suit jacket as he sat flat behind the grand mahogany desk console.
The time was 8:15 a.m. Every single transaction log scrolling across his dual monitors rendered a rapid, dazzling burst of emerald-green financial code trails that linked directly into an extra-jurisdictional database proxy in downtown Boston.
"The connection is fully mirrored, Nathaniel," his chief enforcement counsel and oldest childhood friend, Marcus Hale, said through his wireless earpiece.
His voice was a hard baritone of absolute tactical focus.
"The data anomalies aren't an isolated administrative error from the Chicago board calls. The moment your mother Margaret was lifted onto the stretcher at dawn... an automated network script initialized from a remote hardware clone device operating out of an apartment near Back Bay. They’re executing a multi-million-dollar wire transfer to clear their liabilities before the New York clearing houses open tomorrow morning."
Nathaniel’s gray eyes narrowed into an expression of absolute, clinical detachment as he scanned the technical ledger pylon.
Stamped at the top of the encrypted routing tracks was a name that made his jaw muscles throb violently against his shirt collar.
Noraline Holdings LLC. Registered Agent: Vivien Cole.

"My fiancée," Nathaniel whispered, the words tasting like lead and old copper in his mouth.
"Vivien," Marcus corrected ruthlessly. "For the past eighteen months, she and her younger brother, Martin Pierce—the chief financial director for the Vanguard Group syndicate—have been utilizing a duplicated hardware token of your personal administrative signatures. The eighty-five million dollars in liquid corporate reserves you believed were lost to market volatility last winter... they were systematically siphoned straight into an offshore shell pipeline based out of Nicosia, Cyprus. They needed your mother permanently immobilized or declared medically incompetent before the quarterly compliance audit hit the state registry today, knowing that her entry would automatically transfer the controlling fifty-one percent voting block of the entire marine logistics network straight into Vivien’s hands."
