Chapter 12 - Above the Atlantic

The cabin of the Falcon 8X was bathed in a soft, amber glow as the private jet soared smoothly through the dark, star-studded expanse of the mid-Atlantic sky. Below us, an endless sheet of black ocean stretched out toward the horizon, mirroring the infinite depth of the night.
I sat by the window, sipping black coffee from a porcelain cup, watching the gentle contrails dissolve into the moonlight. Across the aisle, Clara was leaning over a series of financial ledgers and corporate asset maps Marcus had projected onto a portable tablet, tracing the tangled web of shell companies Ethan had used to siphon Julian Vance’s patents twelve years ago.
—It’s all right here, Clara murmured, her finger tapping the glass screen. —Every single subsidiary, every offshore routing number, every fake acquisition. If we present these audited ledgers directly to the Swiss Federal Banking Commission along with the notarized transfer of corporate control, their frozen asset protocols will trigger instantly.
—Ethan knows that too, Marcus said from the front cabin seat, looking back over his shoulder while typing furiously on his laptop. —That’s why his Gulfstream is flying at maximum burn. According to our aviation tracker, he’s scheduled to touch down at Zurich Kloten Airport roughly forty minutes ahead of us.
—Forty minutes is plenty of time, I said calmly, taking a slow sip of my coffee. —Ethan thinks he’s running toward a sanctuary. He doesn't realize he’s running straight into a trap that has been closing around him for twelve years.
The door to the cockpit opened softly, and the co-pilot poked his head out, offering a polite nod.
—Mrs. Cole, we’ve just received clearance for priority descent into Zurich. Weather is clear, and ground control has cleared us for a direct taxi to the private aviation sector.
—Thank you, Captain, I replied smoothly. —Let’s make sure we touch down with absolute precision.
As the co-pilot retreated back into the cockpit, I turned my gaze back toward the dark window. My mind drifted back to the very beginning—the struggling mechanic with empty pockets who had promised me the world, the damp apartment above the bakery, the desperate whispers in the dark, and the twelve years of grinding, relentless sacrifice I had poured into building a monster disguised as a partner.

He had wanted to conquer the world by stepping on everyone in his path, believing that power was something you could steal, hoard, and lock away behind iron gates. He never understood the fundamental law of survival: empires built on stolen ground always collapse under the weight of their own deceit.
And now, the final act was about to begin.
